  • Floral Smile

    A flowery, all occasion card for a friend or relative featuring beautiful dies & paper w/ a short tutorial showing how I did the partial die cut edge. 



    A big congrats to Diane, the newest Featured Stamper (FS856)! She has a really lovely gallery & after much browsing, I chose THIS card to case. I loved the fancy lower edge & layout, so I kept those, but I used different dies, colors & papers.

    For my card, I did something I don’t usually do..I picked the floral paper first & die cut it. I wanted to make sure it would stand out enough behind the top panel. Then I cut a smaller white panel & used an oval die to do a partial die cut edge.
    Here’s how I did that:

    I placed the large stitched oval where I wanted the edge to be (shown above).

    Then I placed the top plate over just the area I wanted to cut. (I’m using the Big Shot here so you can see it, above). The machine will only cut what the top plate covers.

    All cut & turned out perfectly! Now I have the curved edge I wanted.

    I then die cut the fancy oval & the envelope of flowers out of white & trimmed off what I wasn’t going to use. I placed the section of the fancy oval under the curved edge & the flowers/leave of the flower envelope I trimmed to fit on top. I cut some pieces of 2 different dusty pinks to place behind the 2 big flowers & 2 small buds. The greeting was stamped in black & heat embossed. I didn’t have the right color of gems, so I used a Copic marker (RV34) to color the clear stones. The greeting circles were popped up just a bit.

  • Happiest Day

    An easy, colorful card to wish someone a happy day. The stencil used on the background was not only sponged for the color, but I actually embossed w/ it. Check out the mini tutorial to see how.


    It’s my turn to host the Splitcoast Featured Stamper Challenge (FS847) so a big congrats to Imke, the newest Featured Stamper! Imke has such a lovely gallery & after much browsing, I chose THIS card to case. I liked the colors & layout so I kept those, but I used different images, dies & instead of emboss resist, I used a stencil for my background.

    My card was pretty simple. After placing the stencil on a piece of white card I had already die cut, I sponged on the various yellow-orange & pink inks. I wanted a little sparkle so I spritzed on some transparent sparkle/shine spray. After die cutting the dk pink leaf branch, I spritzed it, as well. The greeting was heat embossed onto a die cut piece of translucent vellum.

    Here’s the fun part in a mini tutorial. I also used the stencil to emboss the background. This is how I did it:

    I used my Big Shot to demonstrate this so it would easy to see. I opened the first tab on the platform, placed the bottom plate on Tab 1. Then I placed the thin embossing mat w/ the stenciled paper on top. I lined up the stencil where it needed to go, then put a thin plastic shim on top.

    I’m holding it sideways so you can see it’s fairly thin. The final layer in the sandwich is the clear top plate.

    After running it thru, this is what I got. You can really feel & see the embossed lines in person. I also did a plain piece of white so you could see it better. It’s important to note, that the sandwich needs to lie flat & although it doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of pressure on it, it will be enough. Any more & you could break your stencil. You might also try misting your paper lightly for a good impression.

    The leaf branch was popped up just bit & the glue tape was strategically placed so it would not show thru the vellum.

    It’s my turn to host the Inspiration Challenge on Splitcoast (IC900) & I chose a really fun site w/ lots of ideas..The Refab Diaries & their Pinterest Board where I found THIS picture. I thought the bright colors & hodgepodge of items would be perfect for the image I wanted to use.

    After stamping & coloring this party image, I fussy cut it (actually pretty easy since it’s just a rounded outline). I popped it up just a bit on a mini slimline bg & backed it w/ a piece of polka dot paper. The banner was stamped separately, fussy cut & popped up on the original banner area. For this greeting & the large Happy & Birthday words, I used a combo of Versaclair Glamorous & Purple Delight, stamping one then the other on top of it,  to get the right color to match the paper (the Misti is essential for this). After I die the words, I used the leftover part as a reverse mask & stenciled in the pinkish shadow.

    You can see the finished Happy at the top & the reverse mask/stencil of Birthday at the bottom.

    Here the stenciling/sponging is finished.

    I placed the stamped, die cut words slightly offset to allow the shadow to show behind them.
