When I saw the technique challenge on Splitcoast (TLC676) was a fancy fold, the first thing I thought was “it’s gonna be trouble”. I was right. But at least I had resigned myself to that fact going in. And it was really only trouble for a few reasons…
1. I also decided I HAD to give the Gilded Faux Silk another try (first time was horrible). It made the sliding top really stiff & hard to fold.
2. My measurements were a little different so I had to reverse engineer it. Sheesh! Will I never learn?
3. I keep getting sucked into the bottomless pit of hubby’s plumbing reconfigurations. Not only has he acquired every plumbing tool known to man, he also constantly borrows MY crafting tools. Apparently, my tools are better than his tools, lol. And I have to help him reengineer the problem. (He’s NOT a plumber..he’s not even particularly mechanically inclined, lol.)
So..the gilded faux silk turned out better this time, probably because I needed snowflakes & blue & that looks good together. The fold finally cooperated. But then a fourth problem..silver & fancy folds are very HARD to photograph. It is what it is & here it is.
And here’s a look at the inside. I went simple since the front was an engineering feat!

Today we are taking another look at the Our Daily Bread designs June Release! Such fabulous dies & stamp/die duo sets! Did you order yours yet?
For my project, I created a fun surprise box. The Surprise Box die makes it so easy to do & it’s a blast figuring out which dies to use when decorating it. I went with a birthday stars & presents theme. And I may have gone a little over the top w/ the layers. My box is actually very sturdy as I used a very heavy white c/s for the inside & cut another white layer for the outside (I wanted the inside to be as pretty as the outside w/ the embossing) then added all the die cut paper rectangles, stars & presents around the outside.
This is a better picture of the outside & underside of the flaps. The only problem w/ this box, is how to photograph it. So I took a bunch of pics.
The balloons, stars & Wish are so sparkly in person! There’s even a little cupcake tucked under the Wish. I will tell you, to make the Pierced Rectangles & plain Rectangle layers on the outside, I did have to do a little resizing to make them smaller. But that’s pretty easy..just be sure to match up the pierced holes when cutting the other end.
I also added another long liner to the outside of the back to use as sort of the inside of a card, where I could write a little message. And this all folds flat-ish to fit in a standard A2 or A6 envelope.

Today, we’re featuring Friendship II . What a lovely image! Originally, she was part of the beach background, but I cut her out and pieced the scene behind her to make it bigger. I patterned my card on a Center Step Card but I made a few changes. Mine is not directly in the center- it’s offset to the left. And the center pop out section has another fold at the same place the rest of the card folds. I had to add this because the beach scene covers up the opening behind the girl. I also added more of the foreground beach grass to the bottom “step”. Everything was colored w/ markers. The finished card measures 5.5 x 5.5 (at the tallest point).
- stamp sheet size: 8 1/2 x 5, Lady on the beach size: 4 x 5
