  • Cool Cats

Posted on January 10, 2025 9:56 PM by Julie Comment

Today I have a die cut, paper pieced, mid-century mod birthday card. The two cool cats were put together with an assortment of dies and the background is a partial sunrays stained glass die with only some of the pieces colored in. It has a real 50’s-60’s vibe to it.

For the Inspiration Challenge IC997, we are visiting a site called Kate McEnroe & her Pinterest Board. I was inspired by THIS picture. I really love the atomic cat look & my only problem was figuring out a way to create this pair of cool cats. I’ll admit, I had to look through a lot of dies to come up with some to piece together.

To make the cat bodies, I used a large & a small vase, since the shape was so similar. The tails were the curliques from the Get Well Soon die. The head on the small cat is actually a letter D from the Vintage Alpha set turned sideways w/ white in the center. For the large cat head, I just cut a pointy oval shape then added the punch outs from the Hugs die. A black marker was used to add the vertical pupils. The ears on the large cat are just triangular pieces. The Sunrays background was cut out of ivory & I used ink to color in some of the pieces. A pointy flower die was used for the sun shape. The black frame was made w/ 2 arched dies. After attaching it on top of the background I used the larger one to cut it the same size as the frame.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Today I have an easy card with many layers. Sometimes when my card seems too easy, I add layers to pump it up or add a bit more detail or color. You could easily make this a one layer card, just omit the circles and background layers. Either way, this stamp set makes it super easy to get a watercolor look without the water.

A big congrats to Cheryl, the newest Featured Stamper FS935. She has a lovely gallery & I chose THIS card to case. I kept the layout with the circle element & rectangles, but I used different stamps, colors & dies. I also made mine a spring/summer card instead of Halloween.

For my card, I die cut the top white panel & the larger white panel. Then I put the smaller one into my Misti & stamped the parts of this multi layer, water color like set. I mixed the colors on the stamps a bit, to get a more varied look. The circles were cut out of the top right corner, layered onto to coral & stacked back into place with the greeting added on the topmost circle. Another coral layer was added behind the largest white panel, a few rhinestones were added and it was done!

    Thanks
    so much for stopping by!

  • Mosaic Birthday

Posted on January 3, 2025 10:23 PM by Julie Comment

It’s a New Year and time for a very colorful birthday card! This was a lot of fun and only requires 2 dies. This mosaic cover is fantastic and there are so many different colors you can put behind it or die cut them, like I did, and piece them all into place. I used large paint chips for all the colors and aluminum foil for the greeting die. How fun is that?

It’s my turn to host the Inspiration Challenge IC996, and we are visiting Lifestyle for Real Life & their Pinterest Board. I was inspired by THIS picture. I knew I had the perfect die & I also have a lot of paint chips.

I die cut the mosaic twice..once out of plain white & again out of heavy white. I used a temporary adhesive tape all over a piece of white & attached it. Areas of the die were cut out of a bunch of paint chips then I played with them to get a color arrangement I liked. Since I had adhesive underneath, it made it easy to place them. I used a permanent glue under each one when I was finished then attached the heavy white outline on top. For the greeting, I glued a piece of heavy aluminum foil to a piece of card stock then die cut the wording. I also die cut 2 more out of heavy white. One to put under the words for lift & another to go under the vellum backing. I used a very heavy translucent vellum for the shadow. After piecing all of those colors, I didn’t want to cover them up. The extra die cut word has adhesive on top & bottom and was attached under the vellum with the foil word attached on top. With the word sandwich, it will attach to the front but the adhesive won’t show. Some sequins were added for a little sparkle.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
