  • Father’s Day Lighthouse

Posted on April 18, 2016 10:46 PM by Julie Comment

    Lighthouse Scene cu 08963
It’s week 3 of my Guest Designer spot on the Splitcoast Color Challenge. The colors this week are gray, lagoon & honey w/ the dessert being a masculine card. So I thought it would be a good time to make a Father’s Day card.
    Lighthouse Scene 08965
I love the look of Prismacolor pencils on toned card stock..usually I’ll pick kraft but since one of the colors is gray, I used it instead. After putting the lighthouse in my Misti, I stamped it w/ Memento, colored w/ Prismas, then overstamped w/ Versafine. Actually, no black pencils were used on the lighthouse..just very dark grays, lt grays & white. I finished off the scene by adding the water & seagulls then added a white mat on top. The greeting had to be split to fit the vertical pennant.

Here’s a look at the inside. Since my dad lives a handful of states away, I thought this greeting was perfect. But since he was in the Air Force, I hope he doesn’t think I moved him to the Navy.

The colors of Prismas I used are:
    PC938 White, PC1077 Colorless Blender, PC917 Sunburst Yellow, PC1060 Cool Gray 20%, PC1061 Cool Gray 30%, PC1063 Cool Gray 50%, PC1067 Cool Gray 90%, PC1088 Muted Turquoise, PC1022 Mediterranean Blue, PC1027 Peacock

    Baby Nest 08666
The idea for my baby card came from some paint chips I had in my stash. I thought the colors would be perfect for a baby girl card. With the colors in hand, I picked out the closest colors of Copic markers & refills & loaded a mini mister w/ isopropyl alcohol & spritzed a plain white panel w/ it. No need to use your Copic blender refill for this when the alcohol will do the same basic job at much less cost. With the paper wet, I dropped the blender colors here & there & let the colors spread, spritzing w/ more alcohol when needed. When the colors looked like I wanted, I dropped a few droplets of alcohol to make the paler circles. When it dried, I die cut it, put it in my Misti, stamped w/ Memento, added just a touch more color to the image, then over stamped w/ Versafine. I used a white gel pen to go over the eggs. The Congratulations was die cut out of another paint chip & I shortened it by snipping off part of the word & repositioning the curlicue tail of the G.

Here’s a look at the inside & below it are the Copics I used. I also used the exact same colors of refills for the background.

    Old Barn cu 08678Weekly-Favorite x3 best-of-2016-scs-smaller
This card is continuing the Serendipity Challenge Theme this month of circles/dots. To make this card, I started by making a watercolor background w/ a series of washes for the ground, sky & hillside in the back right. When dry, I die cut it, placed it my Misti & stamped the barn scene w/ Memento.

    Old Barn 08674
Since the colors for the barn would be darker, I just added some detail watercolor on top of the barn. It turned out to be a little darker than I wanted, so I stamped the barn roof & front again on a separate piece of watercolor paper, used Brushos on the roof (to get the rusty look), painted the front, then paper pieced them on top of the original. Then I die cut w/ a pierced circle, added the white circle & put them back on top for a sort of spotlight look. A narrow white frame & the die cut Hello were attached on top.

Her’s a look at the inside. The narrow strips were about all I had left from the piece so I stamped the barn scene using the lilac distress ink then added the greeting.

    Night Gazebo cu 07899
    Weekly-Favorite
Today’s Color Challenge (CC560) on Splitcoast is navy & lt blue. I love navy & white for Christmas/winter cards & adding a little lt blue seemed perfect.
    Night Gazebo 07898
This was a fairly simple card..a little white embossing of the greeting
& snowflakes on the navy background, a little dry embossed snow hill, an into the window gazebo w/ a couple of lamp posts and some more white embossing on the bottom of the frame. Nothing too hard or time consuming. I really like the look of white embossing on navy…to me it just looks sharp & clean. I also added a little tree inside the gazebo from the Christmas Village 4 in 1 & added some red ornament dots on it. The white frame is elevated just a bit from the lt blue layer.

Thanks so much for stopping by! If you haven’t, head on over and check out the DRS Thursday Challenge…this week, Tags! Make a tag or have one on your project. DRS images are not required & there’s a nice prize up for grabs.
