• Enjoy the Waves

An all die cut card featuring cute little sailboats, a beautiful rope and anchor undersea frame and some lovely sea themed paper. The main color is a neutral sand with ivory  and navy boat sails and a beautiful blue wavy pattern papaer behind it. It only looks complicated, but it’s actually pretty easy.

For the Inspiration Challenge, we are visiting The Other Aesthic & their Pinterest Board where I found THIS picture of some beach inspired pillows. I really liked the neutral w/ the navy. After die cutting the large frame, I trimmed it around the edges just a bit then attached it to a slightly larger piece of the blue designer paper. Helpful Tip: Before you attach the 2 pieces of paper together, line them up & die cut the larger circle out of the blue paper, in the section where the circle will go on top. Then cut the smaller circle out of the sand paper in the same area. When they are attached together, they will cover the missing circles in the top frame piece. It keeps you from having to use 2 pieces of paper.  All the boat parts were cut out of ivory & navy & some waves were cut out of the blue and a small section of the sand color.

For the waves, after attaching them to the bottom of the circle, I ran it back thru the die cutting machine w/ the same stitched circle to trim the excess. The greeting was stamped onto a separate piece of ivory, trimmed closely, & split in half. I attached them to little rectangles of the blue designer paper & added them to the front as shown.

  • Sailboat Birthday

A fun birthday card with a nautical theme in patriotic colors. Great for a masculine birthday, a birthday near a holiday like July 4th, or anyone who loves seafaring images. Easy to change out the colors to customize to your preference. I think it would look terrific in smokey blues with sand colored accents.

It’s my turn to host the Featured Stamper Challenge (FS906) so a big congrats to Tanya! She has big, beautiful gallery full of fun scrap pages & lovely cards. I chose THIS card to case. I liked the layout & nautical theme so I kept those. I used different images, dies, a die cut boat instead of a stamped one & two stenciled backgrounds instead of designer paper.

After die cutting the boat, waves & little frames, I popped up the boat & frame & put it all together. I  used an anchor & star stencil on the navy panel. The anchors were stenciled w/ the darkest of the blue ink set & I used a white pigment ink for the stars. The red was done w/ the sailboat stencil & dark red ink & white pigment for the waves.  I liked the white torn edge on Tanya’s but my paper wasn’t white core so I rubbed the white ink over the torn edge. The two panels were married together on top of a white panel & die cut w/ the largest stitched rectangle die. The greeting was added onto a little tag.

  • Magic Liquid

A bright, colorful card for your favorite coffee lover. Perfect for a “let’s get together soon” or an invite for a coffee date. I used a rainbow of bright colors but this is easy to change to your favorite colors or even a monochromatic coffee colored card. The 2 part stencil makes it easy to get that fun cubist background.

For the Inspiration Challenge (IC967) we are visiting Carla Bank Art & their Pinterest Board. I used THIS print for my inspiration. I knew I had the perfect stencil to make a background like this. And I used almost every color group of these inks to make it. I placed the first stencil over the paper & used the detail brushes to add the lightest color of each group. Then I took the second stencil & applied the next darkest ink of each group. For the last step, I turned the stencil over & applied the third darkest ink of each group. Hint: to see which side is which, place the stencil on top of the colored package. When it lines up, you have it correctly orientated.

When I finished, the stenciled panel was die cut w/ the second largest of the plain rectangles & I used the largest scallop rectangle to cut a dark teal layer to back it. I did use a few Prismacolor pencils to sharpen the blocks a bit. A couple of teals & a lime green were used for the coffee go cup. Just for fun, I ran the teal coffee band thru my paper crimper then added the greeting. The coffee cup was popped up for dimension.
