    Best of 2014!
Welcome to  the August Challenge for Serendipity Stamps! This month the challenge is is Miss You/Thinking of You. The design team has the added challenge of CAS (Clean & Simple). You only have to make a Miss You/Thinking of You card. The sale at Serendipity Stamps this week is Free Shipping on any US order of $10 or more. Good through August 13th.  And as always, we have a  have a gift certificate up for grabs to a random player. Mustang Portrait 04276For my CAS card, I stamped the mustang with Versafine because I knew I wanted to use a water soluble graphite & water color paper and Memento doesn’t really stand up to water nor work really well on textured paper like water color paper. I added shading w/ the graphite and a water brush then die cut with an oval die & matted it on a black oval. As I was looking at the w/c paper I cut the oval from, I thought..I wonder how it would look if I put the oval on the inside, viewable through the cut out? A window or outside in type card. So I cut the strip to A2 size, scored it to put the oval on the inside. I added a black die cut oval ring around the outside oval and the the greeting near the edge.  Mustange Portrait inside 04281 On the inside, I stamped the rope corner and added more of the graphite. It looks a little warpy at the top because this water color paper is much heavier than card stock and it does not like to be turned inside out! Thanks so much for stopping by! Please be sure to stop by all of the DT Blogs. We also have a special guest this month…Kecia Waters! You’ll love her card!

    Anchor 04218
For my first card, I stamped the wonderful Anchor scene, colored it with Copics then did a bit of my out of the box technique on the right side using a classic oval die. I kept the colors a little toned down to coordinate with the background paper I wanted to use. The larger black oval and wide black panel were done with the embossing folder stamping technique. I sprayed one side of an embossing folder w/ sparkly silver & gold sprays, then pressed a piece of black card stock inside. There is no texture since I didn’t emboss it…just sparkle! On the teal woodgrain patterned paper, I stamped the little anchor & compass rose with teal ink  & the fishing net background on the right side with gold ink. The two different braided ropes w/ shells were something I’ve had in stash for quite a while. The smaller one was glued around the oval and the larger one tied in a bow and added. The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25 & these are the Copics I used.

Stamps: Our Daily Bread designs Anchor the Soul, Smooth Sailing, Fishing Net Background
Paper: X-Press It white, black, dp (Paper Studio – ETC collection)

    Better Flip Flops 04208
On my second card, I went with a fun tropical color combo and lots of sparkle. I had some pieces of striped paper w/ lines of sparkle already in it so I used a couple of rainbow ink pads to sponge in those colors on the stamped, die cut flip flops. I also used them to stamp the big sand dollar then stamped the greeting on top. It was die cut with one of the circle ornament dies and I used a scallop circle on the teal layer. The little teal border was die cut with an edge of a scalloped long rectangle die I used on both sides. I added a few gems and stickles in tropical colors to the flip flop straps. The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25.

    Best of 2014!
A big congrats to Katie, the newest Queen for the Day (QFTD220) on Splitcoast! She has a wonderful gallery and I was so pleased to be asked by Trish to be a Guest Designer for her crowning! There are a lot of cards I wanted to case, but THIS one really stuck in my head. I guess I’m just crazy for color…especially rainbows of color. That’s about the only thing my card has in common with Katie’s fun card. Not really sure how it went from cute little chicks to tall skyscrapers, but there you go.

Christmas Rainbow 04145For my card, I stamped my newly acquired Christmas scene twice and colored the buildings on both but only the sky/moon on one. I cut off the lower row w/ the Jingle Bell greeting in favor of a larger one underneath.  I die cut a square window on the black layer, and a slightly larger window on the white layer. The extra row of buildings was fussy cut and popped up on top of the window and slightly down.

After stamping the greeting, I added a single row of a die cut border and attached a rainbow strip behind it. This was a tad challenging since it’s a 3 row die & I also made the row shorter than the actual die. So to do this, I cut my strip the size I needed, put the die on top w/ only 1 row on the paper and only cut half way down. Took it out, and turned the die around (so it would have finished ends on both sides) and cut the other half. This is similar to the tutorial I did a long time ago: Resizing Your Nesties.  The finished card is 4.25 x 5.50 and these are the Copics I used.
