Sailboat Summer cu 09467
Weekly-Favorite  x 10
Today’s Technique Challenge (TLC593) is reverse masking. Easy peasy & something I do a lot. On this little summer scene, I put the image into my Misti, stamped the sailboat, colored it w/ Copics, then masked it. I used a reverse mask for the horizon to cover the sky & sponge in the sea; put a round mask on the sun & flipped the horizon mask to cover the sea so I could sponge in the sky; then took off the sun mask & covered the sky w/ a reverse mask of the sun & sponged in the sun itself. Whew! That was easier to do than to explain. I even confused myself trying to write all that.

After all the sponging & masking was done, I added some white highlights w/ a gel pen, put it back into my Misti & over stamped w/ Versafine (all the coloring & sponging had dulled the original Memento lines quite a bit). I die cut it, added a narrow black layer then put a white die cut panel on top. The white panel has a square die cut to let the sailboat show thru & I rounded the corners. I was going for a kind of polaroid look for the frame.

Here are the Copics I used. Some of these were used to fill in little areas around the boat that were revealed when I took off the boat mask.

Under the Sea cu 07324
Weekly-Favorite   Color-Challenge-Favorite   Best of 2015 SCS
Today we are taking another look at the Our Daily Bread designs September release! I just love the fish & dolphins sets. I used the dolphins again for my card today along with Sunburst Pattern & Sparkling Stars dies.
Under the Sea 07323
For my card, after stamping the dolphins with Memento & coloring w/ Copics, I over stamped w/ Versafine then fussy cut them. I repeated this for one more of the dolphin on the right to elevate him a bit on top of the other two. The image was stamped twice more but I colored only the water on both & used a self made cloud stencil & sponged in the sky before die cutting w/ the two sized of stars dies. I also die cut 2 black stars & stacked them offset before attaching the dolphins on top. The background was die cut w/ the Sunburst Bg & the circle cut greeting & a black circle were attached in the circle part of the die. Some sponged aqua die cut stars were attached here & there and stickles was added for some sparkle.

Here’s a look at the inside using some leftovers I didn’t use for the front. (These dolphins were also stamped w/ a small flower from the Boho Love set.) Below it are the Copics I used.

Swim in the Sea 07199
For my cards, I went with the sea/ocean themed sets this month. My first card features the beautiful Under the Sea set. I stamped the dolphins first with Memento, masked the top area, stamped the sun from Hello Sunshine, then colored them. These are the rare pink bellied dolphins, lol. I liked the color combo so..there you go! I like shading & shadows to look believable, but I’m not particularly bothered by fantasy color combos. Since it was all still in my Misti, I over stamped with Versafine to make the details really stand out. (This does make a huge difference..you can see for yourself in a side by side comparison I did on THIS post.) The pink frame was die cut using the Layered Lacey Squares & the largest pink layer was die cut w/ the Flourished Star Pattern die (outer die only). In order to not cover up the tails on the right 2 dolphins, I trimmed around them & lifted them over the frame. I used an embossing folder on the teal background then added the greeting circles, a bow w/ a glittered brad and a wooden wave embellishment I had in my stash.

Here’s a look at the inside. The little silver thingies are die cut waste from one of the ODBD dies (I think it was the Ornamental Cross set).

My second card features the lovely Deep Waters set.
Keep Swimming 07195
The image was stamped first w/ Memento & colored with Copics. I wanted a real underwater  look, so I made sure to add streaks for the water as if the sun were playing with the underwater shadows. Most of the blue/green streaks were done going right over the fish because the colors won’t be quite as bright when viewed under the water. I used a blender to gently remove a bit of color on the tops & faces of the fish before adding the other colors to them. I framed it using a hexagon frame & some peach die cuts using the corner from the Ornate Borders & Flowers die set. The Fancy Foliage dies were used to die cut the faux coral out of vellum then I colored the back side using a Copic. The Fishing Net Bg was stamped on top of the teal paper. The greeting was die cut using one of the Mini Tag dies…I die cut to the middle, turned the die around & die cut the other half.  Stickles was added for sparkle & for the under water bubbles.

These are the Copics I used…let’s just call it a boatload of Copics, lol.
