  • Sunshine is Fine

This cool cat has the perfect spot! Float around for a while, then lay out on a beach towel. Perfect way to spend a summer day and who wouldn’t trade places with him? He’d got it made in the shade, unless he’s walking on sunshine.

A big congrats to Melissa, this week’s Featured Stamper (FS904)! She has a super gallery & I chose THIS card to case. I kept the filmstrip idea but used different images, dies, colors, changed it from Christmas to summer & made mine a mini slimline,

After coloring the cool kitties, I die cut them & a plain white panel for the center of the filmstrip. The filmstrip itself was cut out of black. There are 4 opening in the die cut as is, but I cut it apart & spliced it back together with only 3. This is easier to do on dark card stock because it doesn’t show on the black. The kitties were added behind the filmstrip & trimmed so they didn’t go out into the edges. Then I backed the center section w/ another piece of white. The paper behind the white panel was also spliced since it’s shorter than the mini slimline layer. Again, it was easy to do down at the very dark blue end. When I tilted the filmstrip it looked a little bare in the upper left corner so I added a die cut sun before attaching the filmstrip. Sorta reinforces the “sunshine” theme as well.

The filmstrip was only slightly elevated. Here are the Copics I used:

  • Gnomes at the Beach

Ready for Summer? School’s out and it’s time to pack the swimsuits and head for a beachy vacation. Beat the heat sitting by the water, breeze in your hair, toes in the sand. And don’t forget to grab a cool drink. Unwind, take a swim or just relax to the sound of the waves.

It’s my turn to host the Inspiration Challenge (IC965) this first day of June, and we are visiting Patti J. Good Designs & her Pinterest Board. I came across THIS cute little gnome & used him for my inspiration.

After coloring my cute little gnomes & die cutting them, I made a background for them using a couple of stencils. I die cut the white panel then taped the sun burst stencil across the top & placed the rectangle stencil to mask off the lower section. After sponging the yellows & a bit of pink, I removed the sun stencil & used a reverse mask I made by die cutting a similar sized circle in the middle of a piece of copy paper, to cover the rays, then sponged in the sun itself. I removed this, placed the wavy stencil across the bottom section & the rectangle stencil over the top part. The blues were sponged in for the waves.

The gnomes & palm tree were popped up a bit & the smallish mini slimline die cut was popped up a bit more before the gnomes were added. The greeting was stamped directly over the sun burst rays before the gnome panel was added. I used some stickles glitter glue to paint in the sparkle on the waves.
These are the Copics I used. I will mention, in real life, these gnomes’ outfits are soooo bright w/ the fluorescent Copics. They literally glow!

  • Dad’s Tie

Need some Dad card ideas? This new Shirt & Tie die set is sure to fit the bill! Pick Dad’s favorite colors & put it all together. Pick a greeting from the Dad Phrases set and you’re all set.

For the Inspiration Challenge (IC964) we are visiting a shop called Miss Jophiel & their Pinterest Board where I found THIS to use as my inspiration. I really liked the sky blue w/ the yellow flowers.

To make my card, I die cut a piece of sky blue w/ the second largest stitched rectangle die then cut it again w/ a herringbone patterned piercing die. I love the texture this gives for a plain background. The shirt front, collars & pocket were cut out of lt yellow & the tie was cut out of a piece of Tropical Dreams paper. My dad would have loved this. He liked yellow & he loved tropical prints. The white background was cut w/ the largest stitched rectangle & for the greeting, I used an off set tag. I stamped it, then ran it half way thru the die cutting machine, turned the die & paper around & cut the other end w/ the flag points to have each end the same. The tie, pocket & collar points were popped up for dimension.
