  • Hello Fall Leaves

Posted on October 1, 2019 4:10 PM by Julie Comment

For today’s Color Challenge (CC759) on Splitcoast, the colors are mango, rose & pear. To be honest, these colors are not on my go to list & I don’t have these colors, so I came as close as I could.

For my card, I first inked a craft sheet w/ distress oxide inks, misted then pressed my paper to it. After I dried it, the leaves were stamped, masking as I went. I pressed some mini Distress inks to a solid version of the leaf, spritzed it then stamped it inside the outline leaves. It still didn’t look right, so I used a paintbrush & some embossing ink & painted inside the leaves & clear embossed them to make them stand out a bit more. The green pear top layer was die cut & the window was cut using my resizing technique to make it longer than a std rect. The 3 little leaves are from a couple of small punches. The fall part of the greeting was stamped & the hello is a double stacked die cut.

Welcome to October & to the Splitcoaststampers Fan Club October Christmas Challenge! You’ll need to be Fan Club member but that’s easy…just click the blue link to find out how. Bet you’re wondering what the challenge theme is..I’d love to tell you but you’ll have to go see for yourself.

My card is all on one layer, so there was a little masking going on. I started by stamping & coloring Leonard, then I masked him & stamped the pine bough to resemble a little Charlie Brown Christmas tree & added a few ornaments. I die cut the window then used a reverse mask of it to stamp the North Pole & reindeer. The snow bg was stamped w/ the tumbled glass. I thought it needed something so I stamped part of the light string on the top of the window then added stickles to the lightbulbs & snowflakes. I did a little cutting around the top of Leonard in order to insert the corner of the window frame underneath him.

Here are the Copics I used.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  • Tree in a Leaf

Posted on September 7, 2019 9:25 PM by Julie Comment

Congrats to Rebecca, the newest Featured Stamper (FS657) on Splitcoast! She has a lovely gallery & I chose THIS card to case. I kept the fall leaf theme w/ the  big central leaf, but I used different images, different colors & a different technique.

For my fall card, I started by die cutting a large leaf shape & using the negative as a mask to sponge Distress inks in the fall colors. Then I stamped the Single Fall Tree in Distress oxide ink in ground espresso. I used a water brush & more of the distress inks to add a little splatter.

For the larger bg, I used the woodgrain bg, but not in the conventional sense. I used a technique I learned probably 15 yrs ago but I don’t see it used these days. I wanted the bg to look a little more solid, so I used a hair dryer to slightly heat a piece of fun foam then pressed it to the woodgrain bg. What I got was a solid version of the woodgrain. (See pic below.) The green block is made of fun foam & I inked it so you could see it better. This works w/ any stamp, it just looks better w/ some. I will caution you, do not use a heat gun..it’s just too hot & will melt the foam into a solid hard mess. I have an old, not very powerful hair dryer I kept just for things like this 😀 . I used my solid foam “stamp” & Distress inks in vintage photo & walnut stain for the bg.

    Here’s the inside.
