Tree in a Leaf

Congrats to Rebecca, the newest Featured Stamper (FS657) on Splitcoast! She has a lovely gallery & I chose THIS card to case. I kept the fall leaf theme w/ the  big central leaf, but I used different images, different colors & a different technique.

For my fall card, I started by die cutting a large leaf shape & using the negative as a mask to sponge Distress inks in the fall colors. Then I stamped the Single Fall Tree in Distress oxide ink in ground espresso. I used a water brush & more of the distress inks to add a little splatter.

For the larger bg, I used the woodgrain bg, but not in the conventional sense. I used a technique I learned probably 15 yrs ago but I don’t see it used these days. I wanted the bg to look a little more solid, so I used a hair dryer to slightly heat a piece of fun foam then pressed it to the woodgrain bg. What I got was a solid version of the woodgrain. (See pic below.) The green block is made of fun foam & I inked it so you could see it better. This works w/ any stamp, it just looks better w/ some. I will caution you, do not use a heat gun..it’s just too hot & will melt the foam into a solid hard mess. I have an old, not very powerful hair dryer I kept just for things like this 😀 . I used my solid foam “stamp” & Distress inks in vintage photo & walnut stain for the bg.

Here’s the inside.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
