Spooky Halloween Brew

The Free for All Challenge (F4A294) today is to use at least 2 shades of purple. Purple is one of my favorite colors to use for Halloween.

For my spooky card, I started with an embossing folder I just bought & couldn’t wait to give it a test drive. Don’t know if you’ve noticed, but these ef’s made by Sizzix just seem to emboss way deeper than a lot of other brands. So I had a piece of lavender card stock & I inked up the embossing folder w/ some dark purple pigment ink, put my c/s in & embossed it. Then I took it out, sprinkled it with some sparkly dark purple embossing powder & heat embossed it (aka embossed embossing ). Wish you could see it..it is really sparkly!

The potions were stamped, colored with Copics & I fussy cut around the tops before adding a bright orange strip behind them. The ghost & moon were fussy cut & the greeting was split in two…the first line was fussy cut & added below the the potions & the second line was die cut & added higher up.

Here’s a look at the inside & below it are the Copics I used. The embossed spider down the left is one of the border folders that came w/ the one I used on the front.

The Ways to Use It Challenge (WT552) on Splitcoast today is all about cats. My Halloween card has a couple of metal confetti cats…every good witch needs a cat, right? Personally, I have never had a cat…I’ve had parrots for so long, bringing a cat in just didn’t seem like a good idea….I picture Sylvester & Tweety Bird. Eventually, the parrot is going to look a lot like lunch to the cat!

For my ghoul friends, I stamped the witch feet on the right & used the mirror image (or reflection) technique for the one on the left. After coloring both, I over stamped the one on the right w/ Versafine but used a very fine Micron pen to go over the one on the left. I accidentally dropped the dark purple Copic on the background so I just did a Pointillism technique in the area all around the witches. The hats were fussy cut and added on top of the bracket border strip along with the greeting.

Halloween Bat

Today’s Sketch Challenge (SC561) on Splitcoast is a really easy one. I turned the sketch on its side & used the tree limb/bat for the downward (or sideways, in my case) element.

Since it’s an easy, wide open sketch, this is an easy, wide open card & except for the black layer, everything is on one layer. The background was made using the acrylic block technique, a mister & some Distress Inks. I did the purples & oranges separately so they wouldn’t blend too much & make mud. The paper is really lightweight water color paper (from the kids’ department..I like it because it’s smooth) & to speed it along, I dried w/ a heat gun then ran it thru my Big Shot to flatten it. The silhouette images were all stamped w/ Versafine & I used a white gel pen to add highlights. The moon image was stamped on white, fussy cut & added on top & I used a white chalk marker to go around the edges of the panel before attaching it to a black mat.
