Serendipity SSCB#32 – Window Card

Welcome to the June Challenge for Serendipity Stamps! This month the challenge is Window Cards. The design team has the added challenge of using another team mate’s card as inspiration.

I was actually inspired by TWO team mates’ cards. Vickie’s card on the left and Jeanne’s card on the right. I like both of their bright red planes, Vickie’s die cut greeting and Jeanne’s window/frame. I used slightly different colors on mine and made a rectangular window for my plane.

After coloring my image with Copics, I die cut a cobalt blue window frame and a narrower white frame and elevated them slightly on top of my airplane image.The Imagine die was cut three times..out of white, yellow and red, stacked on top of each other, a little offset, and attached on the upper right corner.The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25 and these are the Copics I used.

Serendipity SSCB#31 Pt 2- Flowers & Resist!

Welcome to Pt. 2 of the May Challenge for Serendipity Stamps! This month the challenge is Flowers…stamped, die cut, designer paper, dried…whatever you have. For the design team, we have the added challenge of using a resist technique.

I chose a morphed version of embossing resist. Morphed because I also added the twist of bleach. Most of the time I’ll white emboss the image when I’m doing emboss resist, but it just didn’t work very well with this geranium image. So I black embossed it on water color paper. A note about the paper…this isn’t the good stuff…it’s water color paper from the kid’s art supply section. I’ve found when I’m embossing, it does a better job than the good stuff. It’s smoother and not as heavy but it still stands up to water very well. After embossing, I used a combination of techniques. I added color all over w/ a large paint brush, water & some dye reinkers. To make it a little more intense, I also sponged on some extra colors using two Kaleidacolor ink pads. I also splattered a bit here and there then wet it down a bit to soften the splatter. Now for the twist..I took a tiny acrylic paintbrush dipped in bleach and bleached some color back out inside the flowers & leaves. The embossed lines kept the bleach from traveling. If you try this, you must use an acrylic paintbrush…the bleach will totally eat up the natural hair bristles. To further define the image, I added a hint of shadow using a red Copic & a green Copic below the flowers & leaves.

After die cutting the panel, I added a slightly larger, fussy cut black layer. Black die cut elements were added to the corners on the white layer. After matting this on black, I attached it back on top of the original water color bg the image was cut from. The die cut Hello was also shadowed in black.

For my cards, I chose to use the Dream and Imagine die cuts words for my cards. On this card, I used the Dream die and the first thing that came to me was a Dreamcatcher. Somewhere I saw a dreamcatcher that had an owl for the centerpiece and the owl was so similar to this one, I thought this little owl would be perfect. I die cut him out of black and the solid owl version out of white. I also cut another detailed owl out of white paper to place on top of the solid backing so I could see where I wanted to color. After coloring the solid backing, I attached the black owl on top. I used some of the same markers to color a piece of white in bands before I die cut the Dream word. The feathers were stamped, colored and fussy cut. For the dreamcatcher, I die cut a sunflower and backed it with a circle die cut.

The finished card is 4.25 x 7 and these are the Copics I used.

My second card features the Imagine die.

I stamped the Toadstools & Violets, colored them then die cut them using a little bit of my out of the box technique. I had some left over pieces of violet, lavender and rust that coordinated nicely, so I used the closest sizes of matting basic dies to give them a little polish. I die cut the Imagine, corners and top bracket out of white and added them for contrast.

The finished card is 4.25 x 5.50 and these are the Copics I used.

My final card features the Floral Frame and Embellishments along with the larger Floral Dragonfly & Solid Dragonfly dies.

I had some spritzed, water colored background left over from another project with these bright red/orange colors so I die cut the dragonflies and Dream out of it. The larger background behind the floral frame was made by sponging on a variety of pink, red, yellow and orange inks. After I die the floral frame out of white, I used a slightly smaller square die to trim down the left over square center in order to leave some of the red/orange border around it. This card measures 5″ square.
