    Swim in the Sea 07199
For my cards, I went with the sea/ocean themed sets this month. My first card features the beautiful Under the Sea set. I stamped the dolphins first with Memento, masked the top area, stamped the sun from Hello Sunshine, then colored them. These are the rare pink bellied dolphins, lol. I liked the color combo so..there you go! I like shading & shadows to look believable, but I’m not particularly bothered by fantasy color combos. Since it was all still in my Misti, I over stamped with Versafine to make the details really stand out. (This does make a huge difference..you can see for yourself in a side by side comparison I did on THIS post.) The pink frame was die cut using the Layered Lacey Squares & the largest pink layer was die cut w/ the Flourished Star Pattern die (outer die only). In order to not cover up the tails on the right 2 dolphins, I trimmed around them & lifted them over the frame. I used an embossing folder on the teal background then added the greeting circles, a bow w/ a glittered brad and a wooden wave embellishment I had in my stash.

Here’s a look at the inside. The little silver thingies are die cut waste from one of the ODBD dies (I think it was the Ornamental Cross set).

These are the Copics I used to color everything.

My second card features the lovely Deep Waters set.
    Keep Swimming 07195
The image was stamped first w/ Memento & colored with Copics. I wanted a real underwater  look, so I made sure to add streaks for the water as if the sun were playing with the underwater shadows. Most of the blue/green streaks were done going right over the fish because the colors won’t be quite as bright when viewed under the water. I used a blender to gently remove a bit of color on the tops & faces of the fish before adding the other colors to them. I framed it using a hexagon frame & some peach die cuts using the corner from the Ornate Borders & Flowers die set. The Fancy Foliage dies were used to die cut the faux coral out of vellum then I colored the back side using a Copic. The Fishing Net Bg was stamped on top of the teal paper. The greeting was die cut using one of the Mini Tag dies…I die cut to the middle, turned the die around & die cut the other half.  Stickles was added for sparkle & for the under water bubbles.

These are the Copics I used…let’s just call it a boatload of Copics, lol.

    NCC Set Sail 06436
For my seafaring card, after stamping & coloring the sailboat, I used the two sizes of ODBD circle dies to cut it and my out of the box technique to keep from cutting off the mast. After edging the sailboat circle w/ a black marker, I cut a white circle to put behind it and a larger circle out of the same dp I used for the largest pennant. The background panels came about because I had less than a full sheet of the two large strips so I added a narrow piece of the starry dp between the two and attached them to a large white panel I die cut using the largest die of the Flourished Star Pattern set. A smaller pennant, some die cut stars & the compass rose were added to finish.

Here’s a look at the inside using some leftover pieces.NCC Set Sail inside 06442
The finished card is 4.25 x 5.50 and these are the Copics I used.

NCC Deer & Eagle cu 06461

My second card takes us to the mountains & forest. For this card, I got out my trusty little brayer and a rainbow ink pad and brayered over a large white panel.
    NCC Deer & Eagle 06456
I had the top white panel left after I die cut the white circle to back the sailboat card above, so I die cut it using the same Flourished Star Pattern die & used a slightly larger circle to make it a bit bigger and after determining the opening on the brayered panel, I stamped the mountain scene, did a little masking and stamped parts of it again to fill in. On the top white panel, I used a torn diagonal mask & brayered the same colors across it. I did even it up a tad using sponging. A reverse circle mask was used to sponge in the sun then I stamped the sun/eagle on top and the deer & tree at the bottom. The ground image was also stamped using the dark blue of the rainbow pad. I like how it just adds the hint of solid ground. The greeting was also stamped just under the circle opening.

The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25 and here’s a look at the inside using a leftover frame I had sitting around. I brayered it, stamped the tree, deer and the eagle.

  • Sail Away ODBD Alumni Hop!

Posted on July 19, 2012 7:58 AM by Julie 27 Comments

Welcome to Our Daily Bread Designs  Alumni Team’s bi-monthly For the Love Blog Hop.   You may want to start at the ODBD Blog so you won’t miss a thing! This week the Alumni team along with some of the ODBD designers are featuring a hop For the Love of ODBD  embossing plates!

    Julie Warner - justwritedesigns https://thewritestuff.justwritedesigns.com/

Embossing plates are a little different from embossing folders, but there are a number of techniques to really show them off. I love distressing the embossed card stock with a sanding block to bring out the little embossed fish. I made sure to use a white core card stock so that when embossed and sanded, the embossed fish would really show up. Before I embossed it, I also added a little ink to the c/s and afterwards, I really roughed up the edges.

    Julie Warner - justwritedesigns https://thewritestuff.justwritedesigns.com/

I paired the embossed fish panel with this wonderful new ship from Surging Sea and sentiment from Smooth Sailing. Water colors were used on thin water color paper (think kid’s w/c pad), then the image was stamped and bleached. Since I was into distressing, I continued on w/ roughing up the edges and even tore a bit off one corner. The sentiment was die cut w/ a little pennant die and also distressed. The white x’s on the orange dp were added w/ a white gel pen. The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
