Embossing plates are a little different from embossing folders, but there are a number of techniques to really show them off. I love distressing the embossed card stock with a sanding block to bring out the little embossed fish. I made sure to use a white core card stock so that when embossed and sanded, the embossed fish would really show up. Before I embossed it, I also added a little ink to the c/s and afterwards, I really roughed up the edges.

I paired the embossed fish panel with this wonderful new ship from Surging Sea and sentiment from Smooth Sailing. Water colors were used on thin water color paper (think kid’s w/c pad), then the image was stamped and bleached. Since I was into distressing, I continued on w/ roughing up the edges and even tore a bit off one corner. The sentiment was die cut w/ a little pennant die and also distressed. The white x’s on the orange dp were added w/ a white gel pen. The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25.

  • Nautical Vignette

I loved today’s Inspiration Challenge (IC324) site and I was so happy to make a sample for Stef! I chose This for my inspiration. Instead of the beautiful colors they used, I just went w/ a more distressed look but I really loved the triple vignette layout.

All images are Our Daily Bread designs. I stamped the lighthouse twice and selected different areas of it and also the mighty sea scene. I used circle dies to cut them out and for the maroon frame, I used two sizes of circle dies to cut out the “porthole” frames.

I stamped portions of the hymn on the crackled looking dp and distressed the edges w/ a tool and also w/ the tea dye ink. The netting was added on the left and the finished card fits in a #10 business envelope.

These new Sweet William images are just wonderful! They were made to coordinate with the Spellbinders Blossom 3. I stamped all the sizes on gold and purple tissue papers and also on some wide gold tulle ribbon and then die cut them.  After stacking them, I put a gold brad through the center and wrinkled and distressed them within an inch of their lives, lol. I added another piece of the tulle behind the flower then had to get creative with the gold embossed sentiment. This is one BIG flower and I didn’t have much room left on my 5.5 x 4.25 card. I used a border punch across the bottom of the gold layer and backed the flower with a gold embossed fancy label.
