  • Flowers in a Bottle

Posted on May 22, 2020 10:41 PM by Julie 1 Comment

For the Splitcoast Inspiration Challenge this week (IC755), we’re headed to A Cottage in the City (or their Pinterest Board). After much back & forth, I couldn’t decide which I liked more..THIS or THIS..so I combined the two. I used the wood plank wall from the first for my background & the flower in the bottle for my main image.

For the background, I stamped the wood grain fence in gray ink then sponged on the lt blue, antique linen & gray inks to resemble the different wood planks. It looked a little too bright & new, so I took some thinned down white acrylic paint & dry brushed it on top & also spritzed some to get the drops.

On the main image, after stamping the flowers, I masked just the one lower petal & stamped the bottle. I used a Copic multiliner to extend the stems. I also took a couple of quick pics to show the basics of my out of the box die cutting method. You can also see the original tutorial HERE.

Align your die where you want it to cut. Use a craft knife to cut around any areas that will go outside of the die cut boundaries & lift them over the die. You’ll have to go into area inside the die just a bit, but if you cut right on a thicker black outline, it will be almost invisible. Or in this case, I cut the top petals, then slid the die down under these areas. Now run this thru your die cut machine. Since these petals are on top of the die, they won’t be cut off.

All cut & it turned out perfectly! I wanted it over to the side like this to give me room for the greeting. I ended up putting it on a separate piece & I used the craft knife to cut a slit down the side of the bottle & tucked the left edge of the blue greeting flag into the slit.

Here are the Copics I used:

A big Congrats to Karen, the newest Featured Stamper (FS688) on Splitcoast! She has a fun, colorful gallery & I chose THIS card to case. I liked the brilliant blue color & fish theme, so I kept those. But I used different images & dies & changed the layout.

This fun greeting cracks me up & the first thing I said when I read it was “we need a shark image” (or a bigger boat, lol). So the folks at Rubbernecker showed me this shark & I loved it. I colored the areas that needed it then used my out of the box technique to have him coming out of the circle. I put the layered circle w/ the shark onto a larger cobalt blue bg & die cut the different waves at the bottom to add on top.

Here are the Copics I used:

A big congrats to Betty, the newest Featured Stamper (FS686) on Splitcoast! She has a lovely gallery & after much browsing, I chose THIS card to case. I kept most of the layout & flower theme, but used different images, dies & colors, & moved the greeting a bit.

After coloring the pretty flowers, I decided against fussy cutting them entirely & instead used my out of the box die cutting technique. A black pinstripe paper was added down the left side & I tucked in a few die cut green branches. On the greeting, I stamped it on a narrow piece then used just one scallop of  the largest pierced scallop circle die to cut the ends. A couple of black mini brads were put on the ends.

Here are the Copics I used:
