Fun challenge on Splitcoast today! Make your own backgrounds (F4A85)!

The weekend is almost here and some of you are probably planning on a friendly golf game. The only golf I’ve ever played is miniature, but there are a lot of golfers in my family. So I think this would be the perfect masculine birthday card for one of them. All except my aunt Mary, that it is, lol. She LOVES to play golf. You could use it for other occasions, but I used the Above Par Birthday Greeting on the inside.

This golfer reminds me a little of my husband. A long time ago, in a city far, far way,  we lived in a partially finished subdivision and he was out in front practicing his swing. He used to hit balls across the several unfinished streets and pay neighbor kids to shag the balls. So he’s out there one day and my daughter and I are on the couch in the living room. All of a sudden, there is a big CRASH, my glasses fly off my face and this golf ball lands about 3 inches in front of the tv. I wish I had a picture of the look on his face. When he shanked that ball, it hit the curb across the street and bounced back through the front window of our house. I guess if he had hit it any harder, he’d have hit two birds w/ one ball. Me and the tv, lol.

All images are DRS Designs. For my self made backgrounds, I used a little stack of pigment inks that comes in coordinating colors to stamp the Golf word repeatedly. I also used it to make the narrow woven plaid strip. Golfer Duff was colored with markers and given a little out of the box treatment. The finished card is 4.25 x 5.5.

    Thanks so much for looking!

For my long, tall red door, I colored it w/ markers and a water brush then used a Spellbinders square die and resized it to fit around my door. Since it’s not a standard or long rectangle size, this was the only way I could work it. I added a narrow dk red mat and some stickles on the pine boughs and wreath. The sentiment was stamped twice and I die cut them w/ a Ribbon Tag Trio 3, but turned and cut them in opposite directions. I used the one w/ the top curve above the door and the bottom curve below the door. The three little dots were leftovers after I used the Banners 2 for the trim and tassels. The scallop edge at the bottom is also a leftover from the same cutting. The finished card measures 4.25 x 9 and will fit nicely in a #10 business size envelope. The hardest part of this card was finding a layout for this long, tall card that would work w/ this dp! I only had this dp in a 6×6 pad so nothing was long enough. So this was my attempt to get the much shorter paper to fit a longer card! I think the little border strips really helped it out.

From here, hop to Lorelie’s fabulous blog!

Super color combo challenge (CC341)  today at Splitcoast! I chose to use them in small doses on a mostly white card. I needed a bday card and I wanted it to be fun and colorful and I think this will fit the bill.

The row houses were die cut out of the BG dp w/ a little red for the roof. I added just a bit of texture to it then traced around the window openings w/ a Micro pen. The the little hot air balloon and sentiment were paper pieced using some of the same dp as the houses. The clouds were punched out of the cloud dp I used for the next layer.

I hand cut the sentiment into a banner shape and added the little cut out banners across the sky. The finished card is 4.25 x 5.5.
