Welcome to  the March challenge for  Serendipity Stamps!  We’re switching things up a bit in 2014…The challenges will now be MONTHLY so you have longer to play. The design team will still provide inspiration twice a month (every other Wednesday), but you will have the whole month to play along! The Serendipity Challenge this month is In Stictches (use faux, real, stamped.)  And for the Design Team, we’ve added the twist of using a vehicle (bike, boat, plane, train). You can find all the details on how to play along with us at the Serendipity Stamps Challenge Blog. With each challenge we always have a gift certificate up for grabs to a random player. The special this week is 20% off Easter category images. Good through March 12, 2014.

For my vehicle card, I chose this fun tandem bicycle image and made it into a little scene by combining it with the mailboxes image. I stamped the bicycle first, masked it and stamped the mailboxes. I stamped just the grassy/flower portion of the mailbox image a time or two more to add the grass around the bicycle. The little flower bouquet (from the bicycle set) was stamped separately and I cut a slit in the basket to insert it. I used a paper piercer to add the “stitching holes” across the top and bottom and also around the greeting. I used a small corner rounder on one end of the greeting and a maroon Micron pen to add the faux stitches. The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25 and these are the Copics I used to color everything. I know, seems like a lot of colors, but there you go. And the only reason G20 (wax white) is in there is because YG11 (mignonette) was running low and I didn’t want to stop to refill it, lol.

  • It’s Snowing!!

    Julie Warner – https://thewritestuff.justwritedesigns.com
Well, it may not be snowing right now, but it is soooo cold here! This is the deep south, y’all! And as of 9:20 pm EST, it was 13 degrees! The water outside from the rain last night has long since turned to ice and we’re on our way to a predicted 6 degrees tonight (-10 with the wind chill).

So with the winter deep freeze around here, I have two cards to share…one for the CAS challenge today (Snowflakes CAS254) and the other for the Color Challenge tomorrow. The card above is for the CAS challenge and it was super simple. ..especially since I already had the white mega oval die cut in my stash. I stamped the greeting 3 times w/o reinking and added a few snowflakes on it.

The navy panel was stamped w/ the white chalk ink and I added some additional snow dots w/ a white gel pen. The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25.

    Supplies:

Stamps: DRS Designs  –Let it Snow, 4 in 1 Snowflake, Snowflake Scroll, Snow Background
Ink:  Memento Paris Dusk, Colorbox popcorn white chalk ink
    Paper: white, navy
Accessories:  Spellbinders mega oval die, white gel pen, stickles, rhinestone

I was asked to be a guest designer for the Color Challenge on Splitcoast for the month of January! The colors for CC460, are Rich Razzleberry, Island Indigo and Night of Navy. I don’t have the exact colors, but I found some inks and Copics which are very close and they seemed like good winter colors to me, so that’s the direction I went

    Best of 2014!
I’m so happy and honored to be a Guest Designer for the Color Challenge this month and no one was more surprised than me, lol! And along with the colors , I included the dessert of splatters.

After masking a wide band, I stamped the winter trees in black and added a circle mask for the moon and used torn paper mask snow and sky areas. I sponged on the two inks for the night sky and and a little of the teal for the snow. I added some shadows and used the white ink and splatter background to add the snow. A white gel pen was used to bring out some of the splatters a bit more.

I added the narrow strips down the sides (colored navy with Copics) and the greeting in the lower right. The finished card is 4.25 x 5.50.

  • Snowy Night

Congrats to Joy, the newest Featured Stamper on Splitcoast (FS361)! Her gallery is a delight and after browsing for a long time, I chose THIS card to case. I kept the snowy sky and tree theme, but I used different images, slightly different colors and made mine just a winter card instead of a Christmas card.

I stamped the snow tree w/ fence on white, added a hint of color and shadows w/ some very light cool gray and a snow green Copic markers, then cut around the top edge. When I got to the tree, I left only a very small portion of the right side of the trunk. On a larger navy blue piece, I lined up where the tree would be and stamped it again w/ the popcorn white ink. I added a bit more white (for snow) on the tree with a white gel pen. I used a small die cut circle for the moon and stamped just a few of the branches w/ black. The snow was stamped using the splatter background and the popcorn ink. I added a bit of the same splatter bg on the white part using the lt blue ink. The first two lines of the greeting were added in lower left.

Congrats again, Joy, enjoy your week! Thanks so much for stopping by!
