    Rainy Day cu 08931
    Weekly-Favorite
This is my second week as a Guest Designer for the Splitcoast Color Challenge & for this challenge (CC578), the colors are olive, eggplant & Bermuda Bay (a blue/green). I admit, I was a little leery of using the eggplant w/ the other two, but I think it worked out ok in the end.
    Rainy Day 08932
To make my rainy card, I first made 2 water color backgrounds..the narrow blue/green one and a larger one w/ all 3 of the colors to use for the umbrellas. After brushing water over the narrow panel, I mixed blue & green Brusho powders on an old CD with a wet paintbrush then drug the paintbrush across the top edge of the panel & held it upright to let the color run down. I let it dry a bit, then added a few darker drips & some splatters. For the other panel, I mixed the colors of Brushos on the CD & painted them in separate areas on the panel. When both panels were dry, I splattered then w/ water then quickly dipped them in UTEE (ultra thick embossing enamel) & heat embossed. I had do this in small areas at a time in order for the UTEE to stick & the water puddles not to soak in.

After die cutting the umbrellas & narrow panel (I used a rectangular piercing die & did one side at a time), I stamped the half sun where I knew the panel would end then realized that the yellow I was going to color it wasn’t in the challenge so I stamped it again on a leftover piece of the w/c bg & paper pieced it. I attached the narrow panel, put it in my Misti & stamped the greeting on both & added the umbrellas. The 3rd umbrella I trimmed off the handle & just let the Y be its handle.

Here’s a look at the inside.

Today’s Free For All Challenge (F4A329) is teal & red. My teal is slightly on the turq side (I’m down to scraps of true teal..need to get some!) & my red is slightly on the vermillion side because it went better w/ the shade of teal.
    Wise Owl TY 08876
Since it’s getting close to the end of the school year & a lot of people like to make cards for those special teachers. This also continues the DRS Challenge from yesterday to use a die cut. My original intent was to use the Owl & the Open Bible & then I thought, what goes w/ books? Reading glasses! Around here, anyway, because I have terrible eyesight. Then I pulled out the Teacher Tools & saw that the stump the owl was sitting on, matched up just about perfectly w/ the pencil cup in other image. If I had done it before hand, I would have masked the apple, but since the owl was already done, I just masked him & did an extra apple to add on top. The book was stamped twice & I used a Micron pen to scribble the “writing” & popped up the extra image to give it some dimension.

The teal bg was embossed w/ an apple folder & the Thanks word was die cut once out of the vermillion & once out of white & double stacked a little offset. The glasses were die cut & I put some thin plastic behind them to simulate the lenses.
Here’s a look at the inside & below it are the Copic colors I used.

    Pinwheels Wishing cu08853
A big congrats to Simone, the newest Featured Stamper (FS478) on Splitcoast! She has a wonderful gallery with beautiful CAS designs! There are several I picked to case, but I kept coming back to THIS one. I just love the 3 little pinwheels so I kept that, but I used different images, added more layers & left off the gems.
    Pinwheel Wishing 08851
To make my 3 pinwheels, I die cut 3 sizes of squares out of kraft c/s then gold heat embossed the Log Cabin Quilt on one side of all three. On the reverse sides, I used a pencil eraser to make the gold polka dots.

I shared my easy method of making pinwheels from a square shape in THIS post, but basically, just cut from the 4 corners in to almost the center as shown below. (The first is the Log Cabin side, the pic below it is the reverse side w/ the pencil eraser dots.)
    Pinwheel front 08848Pinwheel flipside 08847
After you have the corners cut, just bring one point of each side in to the center & attach. It doesn’t matter which you start w/, just make sure to fold the same point on each side.
    Pinwheels Wising xcu 08858
After I die cut all the layers & the greeting, I inked up the greeting & gold embossed it, too. I also gold embossed the center of the Dresden Quilt image then used different sized circle punches & added these to the centers of my pinwheels.

Here’s a look at the inside using some leftover strips & circles.

Congrats again, Simone! Thanks so much for stopping by!
