  • Green is Lucky!

Today’s Ways to Use It Challenge (WT522) is to include something “Lucky” for yourself on your project. For me, green is it! And little green gems & a shamrock are icing on the lucky cake!
    St Pats 05833
On my lucky St. Pat’s Day card, I stamped the frame, colored it w/ Copics, die cut it using the ODBD Vintage Label dies, then used a Copic to edge it w/ yellow.  The greeting was done the same way on a smaller label die & popped up a bit on top of the frame. After die cutting al the layers w/ the matting basics dies, I used a bracket border to cut the lower edges. Somehow I cut my card to the wrong size so I had quite a bit of white space at the bottom. To compensate, I used one of the inset dies from the brackets and added a green strip behind it. I guess that was lucky, too. Love it when it looks like it was in the original plan all along!

The finished card is somewhere in the neighborhood of 5.50 x 4.0 & these are the Copics I used.

Welcome to the March Challenge for Serendipity Stamps! This month the challenge is Spring Fever! You can get all the details over on the Serendipity Challenge Blog.  For the Design Team, we have the added challenge of making a St. Patrick’s Day card.  And as always, we have a  have a gift certificate up for grabs to a random player.
    St Paddys Owl 05803
My card today is a little simpler than normal and the finished project has very little in common with my original idea. Everything except the little green owl with hat was pretty much reworked. Sometimes you gotta go where you gotta go. After I colored & fussy cut the little owl, I made a hat for him using a couple of punches. For the hat, I used a long neck vase punch, then cut off the vase part. Another cut was made below the curve & I turned the strip around to make a hat brim and added a yellow strip for the band. A clover punch was used for the 4 leaf clover addition.

I added a big yellow sun/moon behind the owl, the greeting in the lower right and a couple of die cut corners to balance things out. These are the Copics I used.

And here’s a look at the inside with a leftover frame and a second owl I fussy cut. He was a test drive for the colors on the other owl and I didn’t want him to be left out 🙂

    Gold Shamrocks cu 05760

For my first project, I’m using the fabulous new St. Patrick’s Day set. I was in a real gold embossing mood, and I used a lot of gold embossing powder on both of my cards. But I just love gold embossing with the spring greens on a St. Patrick’s Day card. Since as a general rule, embossing powder & Copics don’t play together well, I stamped the frame first with Memento cantaloupe ink, figuring that the color would blend in with the gold. I added the greens in the frame with Copics, then used a stamp positioner to line up the frame again, stamp it with gold pigment ink, then heat embossed w/ the gold powder. The Irish Blessing was gold embossed inside the frame, die cut, then added to a green fancy die cut.

    Gold Shamrocks 05758
For the largest green & gold layer, I gold embossed the Vintage Pattern Mini 2 then sponged on two green inks & die cut w/ the largest of the Flourished Star Pattern dies. The metallic gold rectangle was die cut using the same die, but I had to resize it to make it smaller. I also did the clover image the same way as the frame, cut it the added it under the frame. The finished card is 4.25 x 5.50 and these are the Copics I used (the violets were used on the clover flowers, but are very hard to see).

Accessories:  ODBD Flourished Star pattern die,  Spellbinders labels 4 & gold labels 4 dies, gold detail embossing powder, Copic markers, Candi dots, Stamp-a-ma-jig

    Gold Easter Eggs cu 05750

My second card uses several new ODBD sets…Floral Egg, Blessed Easter &  Basket of Blessings sets. I started by making a large water color background with Twinkling H2O’s in pastel colors. It’s almost impossible to capture the subtle shimmer, but it adds a lot in real life. I then gold embossed the Floral Egg & smaller eggs; die cut the smaller eggs & fussy cut the large egg. The grass was die cut using the fabulous Grass Border die and I made a frame out of the left over background & gold embossed the greeting on it.
    Gold Easter Eggs 05748
The pink gingham (from the gorgeous new ODBD Shabby Rose paper collection) was die cut using the Flourished Star Pattern die (do you think I LOVE this die?) & the remaining twinkling background was added underneath. I used some leftover eggs and pieces for the inside.
