  • Tropical Paradise

Posted on September 1, 2023 9:59 PM by Julie Comment

A colorful, tropical card easy to make w/ these fun dies, some ink & a few colored pencils. Sure to brighten someone’s birthday, vacation or retirement.

It’s my turn to host the Inspiration Challenge (IC926) and we’re visiting The Classy Home & their Pinterest Board where I found THIS picture to inspire me.

To make my tropical card, I die cut the palm tree frame out of grass green & stacked it a few times to give it a little depth. I used green, brown & blue-green inks to sponge on top of it, then added some details w/ Prismacolor pencils. I also used the pencils to color in the water on the white layer behind it. The grass, sand & little hilly island were also die cut & shaded w/ inks & pencils. I added the other elements to the white bg before attaching the palm tree frame on top.

The small flowers were die cut, shaped & added at the bottom of the frame. The coconuts were made using a small hole punch then colored in.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

For my Create card, I started w/ a splat embossing folder, inked it w/ the different colors of distress inks, spritzed it w/ a little water, then placed my piece of white card stock inside & pressed. It wasn’t embossed..it’s still flat. (There’s a tutorial for this showing how to do it w/ daubers, but ink pads work great, too.) I wanted just a bit more of the raspberry color, so I used the Ink Spots image to add some here & there. I placed a couple of frames on top of it & added my stacked Create die cut on top. The Mug of Art was stamped, colored w/ Copics & fussy cut along w/ the paintbrush. A few sequins were added for a little sparkle.

Here’s a look at the inside & below it are the Copics I used.

The Sketch Challenge on Splitcoast (SC544), is pretty straightforward except for the diagonal element across the top third. Instead of just putting something there, I chose to divide my panel there using 3 patterns of paper.
    NCC Sail Away 06587
The sailboat image was stamped w/ denim ink onto ivory card stock and again on white. I paper pieced the white boat & bigger clouds onto the ivory version. Originally I die cut the paper at the top using the Sunburst die, but because of the pattern, it’s very hard to see. The greeting and an anchor were added on die cut pennants and I sprinkled some die cut stars around. Here’s a look at the inside. Sorry the pic is a little blurry. 🙂
