These colors may be a little different for a Christmas card, but I was using the Splitcoaststampers Color Challenge (CC606) colors of bermuda, coral & island indigo. I also did a fun Turkish map fold for the inside, per the Technique Challenge (TLC609). If you want the directions for this fold, just click the link for the TLC (above).

As a rule, I don’t usually do fancy folds…apparently I am unable to follow directions..well, I CAN follow directions, I just don’t, lol. It always ends up being a reinvention of the wheel when I can’t stop myself from changing things. So, I did follow directions (mostly) for this one. Mine is a little bit (.25 inch) larger than the directions. And the fancy fold didn’t kill me, so that’s a definite plus. I had to resize the dies to fit a square card (instead of a rectangle), but that’s not too hard. Actually, the hardest part was refilling my ATG tape gun. Sheesh! I bought a case of refills & turns out at least half of them are wound wrong so they are useless. That part was not fun.

Here’s a look at the inside & how it looks folded flat. To me, it looks a little plain but I guess I’m not used to having to fill up that much real estate. Will have to work on that. Since the inside is copy paper, it does fold flat to fit into a regular envelope & it really isn’t bulky or heavy.

It’s my turn to host the Splicoaststampers Featured Stamper Challenge (FS507) so I want to give a big Congrats to Bev, better known as guneaxdesigns! I chose THIS card to CASE. I kept the layout & Christmas theme, but I used stamps instead of a napkin, added a window arch & used an embossing folder.
    pinecone-christmas-09981
I’m using a brand new Pinecone image for my centerpiece. The pinecone was stamped, colored w/ Copics & fussy cut. Then I die cut a large white panel, cut out the arched window & cut another arch (using 2 sizes of the same die set) to make a frame. I stamped the Merry Christmas Arc on the frame (I cut the image apart to make it easier). On the leftover inside arched piece & also on the leftover large frame, I used the Woven Plaid stamp (the cut apart version), & the 3 colors of Distress inks. I went back I embossed the white layer w/ a snowfall folder before I put it all together & I also added a little die cut holly for the hanging part of the pinecone.

Here’s a look at the inside & below it are the Copics I used.

This is also for the Splitcoast Featured Stamper, Bev! I chose THIS card to case, keeping the Christmas theme & layout, but I used different images, water colored my image & used a die cut greeting. For my card, I used this beautiful Poinsettia. I just love poinsettias & I can’t wait for the stores to get them in for Christmas. This image just said “water color” to me but instead of using my usual pan w/c, I used Brushos water color crystals. I sprinkled a few reds & greens on a blank palette then added water & painted w/ them as if they were pan w/c. Since this is a large image, I was pretty sure I was going to have to use my out of the box technique w/ the chosen die. I’ve shown this technique before, but a dear friend of mine, Kittie Caracciolo, who works w/ dies like you wouldn’t believe, mentioned that she just doesn’t “get” the out of the box. So here it is again 🙂 Once you understand the principal, it’s pretty easy. And it’s probably my most used & favorite technique. You can click the green link above for the original tutorial & you can also click any of these pictures to enlarge them.
    poinsettia-wc-otb1-09951
The reason I didn’t fully cut out the little branches before die cutting is because they are so fragile & it’s easy to break them off. After die cutting, I’ll fully trim them out.
    poinsettia-wc-otb2-09952
The most important thing to remember is that anything that falls out of the box, must be lifted above the die or else it will be cut off.
