  • ODBD August Release – Another Look!

    Pink Glitter Beach cu 04324
Today we are taking another look at the ODBD August Release! Did you enjoy the fun beach theme images & dies as much as we did? So many possibilities and so many colors you can use for these fabulous images. This is also for the Inspiration Challenge on Splitcoast (IC454).

    Pink Glitter Beach 04327
For my super sparkly card, I used the fun Flip Flop Fun set & dies, the Life is Better set & dies, the Ocean Treasures set and the Pennant Swag Alphabet & dies from last month. I scored some packages of glitter paper on a super great deal and as a bonus found out it was sticker card stock! I know Stazon ink would work, but you know…I only use it if I have to. Turns out I didn’t have to…Ancient Page works terrific on this glitter/coated card stock but I also heat set it just to be safe. As a side note, You can also add color to using alcohol (Copic) markers. So after stamping the sand dollar & flip flop border I die cut them. The pennant banner & scallop backer were also die cut & I used the pennant swag alphabet to stamp the BEACH on the flags. The greeting was stamped on some very pale peach card stock & I used a die from the Pennant dies set, cut it half way, took it out, turned the die around and die cut the other half for my double ended flag.

I used some A2 matting dies to cut the largest layer and the pink glitter frame. The extra pair of flip flops were stamped, die cut and I added some stickles to the dots.

    Anchor 04218
For my first card, I stamped the wonderful Anchor scene, colored it with Copics then did a bit of my out of the box technique on the right side using a classic oval die. I kept the colors a little toned down to coordinate with the background paper I wanted to use. The larger black oval and wide black panel were done with the embossing folder stamping technique. I sprayed one side of an embossing folder w/ sparkly silver & gold sprays, then pressed a piece of black card stock inside. There is no texture since I didn’t emboss it…just sparkle! On the teal woodgrain patterned paper, I stamped the little anchor & compass rose with teal ink  & the fishing net background on the right side with gold ink. The two different braided ropes w/ shells were something I’ve had in stash for quite a while. The smaller one was glued around the oval and the larger one tied in a bow and added. The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25 & these are the Copics I used.

Paper: X-Press It white, black, dp (Paper Studio – ETC collection)

    Better Flip Flops 04208
On my second card, I went with a fun tropical color combo and lots of sparkle. I had some pieces of striped paper w/ lines of sparkle already in it so I used a couple of rainbow ink pads to sponge in those colors on the stamped, die cut flip flops. I also used them to stamp the big sand dollar then stamped the greeting on top. It was die cut with one of the circle ornament dies and I used a scallop circle on the teal layer. The little teal border was die cut with an edge of a scalloped long rectangle die I used on both sides. I added a few gems and stickles in tropical colors to the flip flop straps. The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25.

Stroll On the Beach cu 04036Welcome to  the July Challenge for Serendipity Stamps! This month the challenge is is Twine. For my card, I went with the Hot Colors option. I love beach sunset scenes so that’s the look I was going for here. I used a combination of sponging and Copic markers for the colors. I grew up in a beach town and I really love palm tree images so I thought this coconut palm would be perfect. After stamping it and the little sun/cloud image, I sponged on some hot sunset colors above the horizon and some water colors below. Normally, I would mask the tree and horizon, but I didn’t feel like cutting out a mask for the palm tree, so I sponged very close to the tree then filled in any white areas w/ Copics.

Stroll on the Beach 04033The tree and sand were colored with Copics and I used a white gel pen to add some highlights. For the twine part of the Challenge, I used a piercing mat & tool to make the two rows of holes, then used some of the yellow/orange twine from The Twinery to stitch the two layers together. I did divide the 4 strands of twine and only used 2 strands to stitch. The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25 and these are the Copics & inks I used for coloring.

I’m also adding this to the Simon Says Monday Challenge…White, since this whole panel started out white.

Stroll on the Beach copics 04030By the way, the prize this month is an assorted pack of twine from The Twinery!
