  • Sitting on the Beach

    Today’s Free For All Challenge (F4A278) asks us to use umbrellas, rain, rivers, etc. I went with the umbrella part, but mine is on the beach.

    If there’s a decent breeze, I’d like to be right there in that chair. We are having the worst heat wave here! And my hubby has been on crutches for a week..we had the back re-sodded, the sprinkler system wasn’t working right..Aye yi yi!! Between watering & waiting on him & driving him to Drs., I’ve been hopping around like a one legged flamenco dancer! I told hubs I could just amputate the foot & get him a peg cause we already have the parrot, lol. So far he’s not going for it.

    This card is all on one layer..I say one layer because there is only one. I never count the card itself. To me that’s a no layer. I started by stamping the chair, masking, then the umbrella, fence & palm tree. With the masks for all of these still in place, I sponged on the sand, sea & used a scallop edge mask to sponge the sky w/ clouds. The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25 and these are the Copics I used.

  • Beach Umbrella

    Today’s Sketch Challenge on Splitcoast (SC534) seemed perfect for an idea I had a couple of weeks ago to make a beach umbrella scene. Originally I was going to use bright, summer colors, but changed my mind & made it softer, sandy colors.

    After I die cut the large sand background & smaller white one, I used a curved border die to cut off the bottom and replaced it w/ a piece of designer paper. I also added a little piece of a punched fence, a few pieces of die cut grass & a die cut border to cover the cut.

    The umbrella was die cut out a dusty pink & the toppers cut from more of the same collection of dp. I added the flip flops, clouds & a few crystals.  Here’s a peek at the simple inside using some leftovers. (It’s not really crooked, lol. It’s just a weird angle.)

    Welcome to the September Challenge for Serendipity Stamps! This month the challenge is is Summer’s Last Hurrah! You can get all the details over on the Serendipity Challenge Blog. And as always, we have a  have a gift certificate up for grabs to a random player.

    Well, this is one of those cards that the idea was different than the result. It also is prettier IRL..so sparkly and not anywhere near as dark as it is the pics. And somewhere along the line, the paper piecing part totally got lost. Maybe we can call the stamping and fussy cutting of all those shells as paper piecing 🙂 I have some packages of coated glitter sticker card stock and this particular sheet was silver. I added the blues & greens with Copics then stamped the shells and palm tree with Ancient Page on top. I had to color then stamp because the ink and Copics don’t work together if I do it the other way around and Memento won’t stick to the coating. I did briefly heat set the ink just to be safe. The frame was die cut out of glittery designer paper with a gray patterned sheet behind it w/ the greeting stamped on it. I added some small punched circles of the same colored glitter paper inside the frame.
