Since anything goes and I always need a ton of birthday cards for March (just around the corner!), I used this fabulous new Birthday die which happens to go perfectly w/ the Happy die & the Reverse Balloon die (I used some of the positive balloons cuts) I already have. I die cut the red stripe layer & the white topper & my first thought was to split the white panel in two & add the Birthday in the middle. Then after die cutting the Birthday, I liked how it looked left with the upper portion of the white but with the lower section removed, so I left it. I added a couple of piece of card stock behind it to elevate it a bit from the red stripe paper. I die cut some of the balloons out of the red stripe & added them w/ some of the confetti & added them next to the double stacked Happy.

Here’s a look at the inside, continuing w/ the die cuts.

Today’s Technique Challenge (TLC570) turned out to be a REAL challenge! We are supposed to emboss using a stencil & though the sandwiches were given for different machines, my first attempt was a disaster! It shredded the card stock & worse, it broke the plastic stencil into a multitude of pieces. Oh well! So I used something I knew would work, because I’ve done many times…I used a piece of plastic canvas (from the cross stitch section) to emboss. These plastic & mesh canvases are much tougher than stencils & are also much more flexible.
Pink Wishing Well 08308Even so, I still had trouble trying to run it through my Big Shot. So I pulled out my old standby..my original Ol’ Red Sizzix, so I could apply the amount of pressure I knew would work. I had a 6″ round piece of plastic canvas & to make it fit Ol’ Red, I cut it in half, misted the heavy card stock lightly, then embossed it onto the card stock.  I like how it mimics the round stacked rocks of the well. I went with some different colors for the well then die cut it w/ a Double Stitched Circle. The outer ring was colored to match & put back.

Here’s a look at the inside & below it are the Copics I used.

To make my very sparkly birthday card, I first die cut two layers out of white using two of the matting basics. Then the Party Balloons Reverse die was die cut in the smaller layer. On the larger layer, I used Distress inks to sponge on the different colors then attached the balloon layer on top. I also sponged one big balloon cut out and the Happy die and attached them. The Party Bg was stamped across a narrow strip using the Kaleidacolor ink & the Birthday was stamped on top.  I added stickles to the Happy & the one balloon on top and used a clear Wink of Stella on the other balloons. Since we’re combining the hop w/ the monthly Challenge of Stripes, my colors were put on in stripes (or wide bands) and the Party Bg on the strip is a stripe format.
