A fun, easy Valentine, Wedding, Anniversary or Birthday card with minimal coloring and a stencil background using translucent grit paste. Easy to customize using the colors of your choice. The hardest part is waiting for it to dry.

A big congrats to Deb, the newest Featured Stamper (FS888) on Splitcoast! She has a wonderful gallery & I chose THIS card to case. I kept the layout (mostly) & the hearts, but I used different images, dies & colors. I also changed the background to a stenciled one.

For my card, I started by placing the stencil on scratch paper & rubbing 2 colors of pinkish/red ink over the top. I didn’t try to blend it, just dabbed it in areas first the lighter color then used the darker color on the rest. I placed the stencil on top of white card stock, ink side UP, then used a palette knife &  spread the grit paste in a thin layer. The paste picked up the ink from the top of the stencil as I spread the paste & it gave me a lovely varied color. There is a subtle glitter in this paste that’s more apparent in person. I carefully lifted the stencil & washed it right away so it wouldn’t adhere to the stencil. Then I let the background piece dry (about 20 minutes or so).

While it was drying, I stamped the greeting & die cut w/ the longest tag. The heart balloons were also stamped, colored & die cut. When dry, I attached a pink inside scallop frame around the heart bg, tucking the greeting tag under the edges, & layered a red outside scallop frame underneath it. The balloons were popped up just a bit.
Here are the Copics I used for the balloons:

  • Love is in the Air

Come see how to make this card full of hearts & a lovely umbrella. Perfect for Valentine, wedding, engagement or anniversary.  Plus another way to use a border die to make a frame.

For the Splitcoast Inspiration Challenge (IC949) we are visiting RealFabric & their Pinterest Board where I found THIS piece of fabric to inspire my card. After die cutting the red w/ white hearts paper, I die cut an inside scallop frame out of white to go around it.  For the bidirectional heart frame, I cut a piece of white to 4.25 x 5.50 inches then cut it one side at a time, trying to evenly space the hearts. To make it more aesthetically pleasing, I cut a little extra of the border, trimmed out 4 hearts & placed them in the corners before backing it w/ a strip of turquoise paper.

The umbrella full of hearts was colored & die cut w/ a large stitched circle & placed in the right corner under the frames. The last half of the greeting was stamped (I used a Misti to rearrange it a bit) & the Love w/ Shadow die was used to replace the Love in the greeting. A few of the little white hearts from the border were colored pink & red before adding them above the umbrella.

  • Gnome Love

A sweet & bright Valentine card featuring a pair of sweet on each other gnomes. Quick to make since the XOXO is a cover die & all you have to do is add colored paper behind it.

A big congrats to Polly, the newest Featured Stamper (FS887)! She has a lovely gallery & I chose THIS card to case. I kept most of the layout w/ the circle element on top, but I used different images, dies & colors and used a cover die instead of the fun fold.

The cute gnome couple image was colored & die cut w/ the coordinating dies. I die cut the circle stitch layer (from the cover die) out of turquoise, trimmed it from the rest of the die cut, & attached it on top of a white circle. The gnomes have foam attached to the back to pop them up.  After die cutting the XOXO cover out of white, I added a piece of bright red behind it then put back the centers of the O’s before attaching a turquoise layer behind it. When I was sure I wouldn’t need to touch it, I added dimensional glaze to the heart to make it shiny.
