Congrats again to Dawn, the newest Featured Stamper (FS368)! I actually started this one before my first one, but it took a bit longer to complete. While cruising Dawn’s beautiful, gallery, I noticed she uses THIS layout quite a bit…flowers framed and with a wide border around them. So I took that theme & layout but I loved the colors of THIS card so I combined them w/ the layout of the other.

This is also for the Sweet Stamps #157 Anything Goes Challenge and the SCS LOVEFEST2014J. I think this is in the Classy & Elegant category for that challenge.

This is one of those cards that the idea starts out simply enough, but as it develops, it gets more and more complicated. I’m sure that never happens to you! After stamping the image on a large white panel and coloring with Copics, I decided I really wanted to die cut it. First problem, none of my rectangle dies are big enough. Ok, so I used a larger square and resized it…not a problem, except I combined it with the out of the box techniquee, too. So it’s a little more complicated. But it worked and I liked the way the corner flowers pop against the navy blue paper. I used the same paper to back the greeting oval. I decided to repeat the daisy corners on the background and colored the lines and shaded the vines but the daisies themselves were fussy cut and added on top. Two extra daisies were added where the frames stopped on the sides, just to finish the line. The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25 and these are the Copics I used.

  • Hummer & Zinnias

    Julie Warner - https://thewritestuff.justwritedesigns.com
A big congrats to Dawn, the newest Featured Stamper on Splitcoast! After much browsing, I chose THIS card to case. I kept most of the layout, the hummingbird and similar colors, but I used different images, moved my greeting to a tag and added a big flower.

The images & dies are a sneak peek from Our Daily Bread designs! I stamped the smaller zinnia randomly across the background using the two pinkish chalk inks then I embossed it w/ the Swiss dots folder. I stamped both sizes of zinnias w/ the same inks and die cut them w/ the matching dies and sponged the edges for more definition. The white band was die cut w/ a bracket border die and ribbon attached on top. I colored some thread w/ a Copic marker and used it to attach the tag. The sweet little hummingbird was colored w/ Copics, die and I added a little clear stardust pen to imitate the iridescent quality of their feathers. Some sequins were added to the zinnia center. The finished card is 4.25 x 5.50 and these are the Copics I used for the hummer.

  • NCC February Release!

    Weekly-Favorite
Welcome to the North Coast Creations February release! And like last month, we have some beautiful florals for you! And they have the loveliest greetings to with them. First, the details on the prizes:

Two winners will be randomly chosen from the comments left on the Designers Blogs to receive a $10 gift certificate good towards the purchase of NCC stamps. You have until February 24, 2014 at 10:00PM EST to leave a comment on each of our designers blog posts.  The two random winners will be announced on the NCC Blog on February 25, 2014, be sure to check back there to see if you have won!

For my first card, I used the beautiful Floral Sentiments 4. I paired it with some of the gorgeous Heart & Soul paper from ODBD and I used an ODBD die for the greeting tab and side tab next to the lilacs. After coloring the lilacs, I traced a frame around them and did what I call a “cutaway” technique by cutting out the background inside the frame. I placed a plum heather piece of card stock behind the image before attaching it to the dp. A pale pink heather card stock I had just happened to match the dp, so I stamped the flower from the ODBD Ornate Borders & Flowers set using the Distress ink. After die cutting partial shapes, I attached it all to the dp along with some layered ODBD Beautiful Borders across the bottom.

Accessories:  Copic markers, ODBD Beautiful Borders dies, Spellbinders rectangle dies, Candi dots

On my second card, I used the gorgeous Floral Sentiments 6. I stamped the hydrangea 3 times, colored it with Copics and fussy cut them. I made the hydrangeas the color of the ones in my front yard. I had a frame that was a die cut leftover so I used it on top of a white die cut ODBD Quatrefoil Pattern. For the background  I used a bleeding tissue technique piece I made a long time ago.  It’s simple to do, but not all tissue paper will bleed when wet. I believe the brand I used was Spectra. All you do is tear some tissue, place it on gloss or semi gloss (poster board) card stock, and spritz with water. You can leave it until it almost dries (for more dramatic color) or pull it off sooner for a more pastel look. This was on the pastel end of the scale. I thought the colors would be perfect for the hydrangeas. Julie Warner - https://thewritestuff.justwritedesigns.com
The bow was also colored with Copics to match and the greeting was stamped on die cut tag from the ODBD Recipe & Tag die set. The finished card is 4.25 x 5.50 and these are the Copics I used. Julie Warner - https://thewritestuff.justwritedesigns.com
