SS Button_design team_resWelcome to the first April Challenge for Serendipity Stamps! This month the challenge is Shades of Grey!  The sale at Serendipity Stamps this week is the 40% Off coupon – 40% Off the highest priced item in their cart – good through 4/9.  The coupon code is “40fromhigh414”. And as always, we have a  have a gift certificate up for grabs to a random player.

For the design team, we have the added challenge of using something that describes part of our personality. So…with that in mind, I was immediately drawn to this fabulous sundial image. Now the shades of grey is not really descriptive of me, as I LOVE color. So that what the challenge part for me. But the sundial really spoke to me. Why? Well, not many people know this, but I was born during a total solar eclipse. Weird, right?  Growing up, one of my best friends was born on the same day, but a little earlier in the day. And I’ve always been drawn to astronomy, the stars and the heavens. So an image of something that tells time by the light of the sun really speaks to me. What would it look like during an eclipse? Maybe these shades of grey.

After I stamped my image, I used the toner greys to color the leaves, the cool greys to add the shadows and the warm greys to shade the wooden post. I stamped an extra top to the sundial and the leaves in the lower right corner, colored them and fussy cut them and added them on top of the base image. The base image was die cut along with the black layer underneath. I used some warm grey, black & textured white pieces I had that were leftovers to fill in the card. I came across some swirly silver metal clips from who knows how long ago, and I used a dark warm grey Copic marker to add a little “age” to them.

The finished card is 4.25 x 5.50 and these are the Copics I used.

  • Monochromatic Flowers & a Circle Challenge

    Julie Warner - https://thewritestuff.justwritedesigns.com
I have a couple more cards to share today…first a couple of monochromatic cards. This first one is for the MIX61 challenge, monochromatic. I used shades of yellow..from pale to a dull yellow/gray. The large yellow background is actually a really big paint chip with 3 colors of pale yellow. So I’m hoping the paint chip (found item), ink, Copics, glitter glue and ribbon will be enough to fit in the “Mix”. After coloring my daisies, I added the greeting and a pen work frame around it and the right edge is a bit out of the box. The seam ribbon was colored w/ Copics and added to the handle.
These are the Copics I used.

This next card was sort of a trial run for the one above. It is also monochromatic, but there’s not a real mix of stuff going on so it really doesn’t fit the “mix”. It does fit into the Free For All Challenge, circles! (F4A214).

This one is very CAS (clean & simple). I stamped the big bloom, masked it and stamped the writing along one side. I used pretty much the same Copics as the one above, minus the cool grays. The greeting was stamped on little strip and the two left side corners were rounded. I added 2 Candi dots in the upper right for a little balance.

Thanks so much for stopping by! If you haven’t yet, please check out the DRS Thursday Challenge. This week, Leftovers Again? Use scraps & leftovers on your creation. DRS images are not required, so head on over and link up your creation!

  • Highest Mountain

Fun sketch today on Splitcoast (SC401)! I did turn and flip it to fit my image better, but I hope I didn’t morph it too much. The images are from Our Daily Bread designs and I die cut the mountain scene and black layer with a new set of Spellbinders that just came in the mail today! Love new toys! They actually saved my card today. Ever have one of those days where nothing works? I sure did! Must have thrown 3 or 4 in the round file. I mean, nothing was working out! Finally thought. go simple, no color and check out the new dies! So this was the best of the lot and I hope you like it.

The sentiment was black embossed on a bit of ivory vellum then I cut a narrow frame for it and added the stripe dp. The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you have a very creative day!
