This is also for the Splitcoast Featured Stamper, Bev! I chose THIS card to case, keeping the Christmas theme & layout, but I used different images, water colored my image & used a die cut greeting. For my card, I used this beautiful Poinsettia. I just love poinsettias & I can’t wait for the stores to get them in for Christmas. This image just said “water color” to me but instead of using my usual pan w/c, I used Brushos water color crystals. I sprinkled a few reds & greens on a blank palette then added water & painted w/ them as if they were pan w/c. Since this is a large image, I was pretty sure I was going to have to use my out of the box technique w/ the chosen die. I’ve shown this technique before, but a dear friend of mine, Kittie Caracciolo, who works w/ dies like you wouldn’t believe, mentioned that she just doesn’t “get” the out of the box. So here it is again 🙂 Once you understand the principal, it’s pretty easy. And it’s probably my most used & favorite technique. You can click the green link above for the original tutorial & you can also click any of these pictures to enlarge them.

The reason I didn’t fully cut out the little branches before die cutting is because they are so fragile & it’s easy to break them off. After die cutting, I’ll fully trim them out.
    poinsettia-wc-otb2-09952
The most important thing to remember is that anything that falls out of the box, must be lifted above the die or else it will be cut off.

A big congrats to Candee, the newest Featured Stamper (FS504) on Splitcoast! She has such a big, beautiful gallery! I kept coming back to THIS card so that’s the one I picked to case. I liked the little triangle trees & sparkle so I kept that, but I used different dies, different papers & a slightly different layout.
    sparkle-joy-08037
I’ve had this cute little die/embossing folder combo for a long time & thought it would be fun to use w/ some different scraps of glitter paper, metallic paper & some purple paper that was misted w/ shimmer spritz. So I die cut all the little trees, circles & rings and put it all together using some scraps of long strips & a piece of of a water color paper bg. The w/c bg was done using Distress inks & a craft sheet a la Wrinkle Free Distress technique.sparkle-joy-xcu-08044
The only thing I had a problem with was finding an ink that would stick to the silver metallic card stock circle for the greeting. After experimenting w/ some different inks, I found that Ancient Page did the best but I also heat set it just to be safe. In the open circles on the trees I also added a little stickles to continue the sparkly theme.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  • Season’s Greetings Dove

Today’s Color Challenge (CC600) offered 5 different color combos. I chose the first combo…smoky slate, coastal cabana & bermuda bay. Since I don’t have the actual colors, I came as close as I could using ink & Copics.
    seasons-dove-09814
I stamped the dove, added just a little gray shading to it, masked it, then sponged on the color for the bg. I used a few Copics to deepen the color & fill in any blank spots. Cut a few layers, die cut half of the greeting & added some gray snowflakes under the layers.seasons-dove-xcu-09821
