    Best of 2014!
Today’s Color Challenge (CC474) on Splitcoast uses some very pretty colors…pink, pistachio & vanilla. The dessert option was a little tough…NO STAMPING! That may be easy for some, but it was a little tougher for me because I love to use images and I love to color them. For my card, I did manage the dessert. I relied on die cuts and punches to see me through.

For the vanilla panel, I used only the first half of a Memory Box die cut. The whole die says “Happy Holidays”. But I positioned it on the top of my vanilla panel, taped it place, then let the “holidays” part hang off of the cutting plate. I wasn’t sure if it would work, but it did! The birthday die is a little Sizzix sizzlet and I only used the birthday part instead of the whole “happy birthday”. The flowers, flower border and branches were all done with punches. I sponged a little darker pink ink on the petal edges and added some tiny black dots on the border flowers and tiny flowers. The big green leaves are from a poinsettia die. I used a dk pink Copic to color my rhinestone brad to match.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

My card today is for 3 Challenges: Sweet Stamps Love Challenge, Splitcoast Inspiration Challenge (IC428), & Splitcoast Lovefest Challenge (LOVEFEST2014B)! For the IC Challenge, I was inspired by THIS rug. I love the poppies and circular shape around them.

It’s no secret that I love floral images..especially I love to color them. Don’t you just adore this Poppy Vase image? I couldn’t wait to color it. Instead of bright red poppies, I made mine more of a coral, orangey color, sort of a California poppy color.  I used Copics to color it then a circle die to cut it out. I decided I only wanted a partial circle, so I cut off the left side. The remaining piece of white card stock, was trimmed and embossed with a small heart pattern before I attached them both to a piece of violet blue designer paper. The “love you” phrase was die cut out of a textured metallic copper card stock and I made a matching 1/2 inch faux brad  ( I also did a similar tutorial for Splitcoast HERE) out the same card stock and attached it to help fill in a little of the blank space. The rest of the layout came about because of pieces I had left over and I decided I liked the way they fit.

These are the Copics I used to color the image:
    Poppies, Flowers & Leaves- Y06, Y15,  R00, R02, R22, R27, R35, R46, R89, , B21, B24, B28,YG01, YG25,YG45, G28
    Vase: B60, B63, BV20, BV25, C00, C1, C3

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  • It’s Snowing!!

    Julie Warner – https://thewritestuff.justwritedesigns.com
Well, it may not be snowing right now, but it is soooo cold here! This is the deep south, y’all! And as of 9:20 pm EST, it was 13 degrees! The water outside from the rain last night has long since turned to ice and we’re on our way to a predicted 6 degrees tonight (-10 with the wind chill).

So with the winter deep freeze around here, I have two cards to share…one for the CAS challenge today (Snowflakes CAS254) and the other for the Color Challenge tomorrow. The card above is for the CAS challenge and it was super simple. ..especially since I already had the white mega oval die cut in my stash. I stamped the greeting 3 times w/o reinking and added a few snowflakes on it.

The navy panel was stamped w/ the white chalk ink and I added some additional snow dots w/ a white gel pen. The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25.

    Supplies:

Stamps: DRS Designs  –Let it Snow, 4 in 1 Snowflake, Snowflake Scroll, Snow Background
Ink:  Memento Paris Dusk, Colorbox popcorn white chalk ink
    Paper: white, navy
Accessories:  Spellbinders mega oval die, white gel pen, stickles, rhinestone

I was asked to be a guest designer for the Color Challenge on Splitcoast for the month of January! The colors for CC460, are Rich Razzleberry, Island Indigo and Night of Navy. I don’t have the exact colors, but I found some inks and Copics which are very close and they seemed like good winter colors to me, so that’s the direction I went

I’m so happy and honored to be a Guest Designer for the Color Challenge this month and no one was more surprised than me, lol! And along with the colors , I included the dessert of splatters.

After masking a wide band, I stamped the winter trees in black and added a circle mask for the moon and used torn paper mask snow and sky areas. I sponged on the two inks for the night sky and and a little of the teal for the snow. I added some shadows and used the white ink and splatter background to add the snow. A white gel pen was used to bring out some of the splatters a bit more.

I added the narrow strips down the sides (colored navy with Copics) and the greeting in the lower right. The finished card is 4.25 x 5.50.
