  • Splish Splash and a Mini Tutorial

    Happy Friday!

Today I’d like share a card and a quick little mini tutorial. The images are all from DRS Designs. The otters and seals were stamped on white c/s and the seals were cut out. For the bubble frame, I decided where to put the circles in the turquoise c/s and die cut them. Then I stamped the sentiment. Now this is where the mini tutorial comes in. I wanted to use an embossing folder on the turquoise but I also wanted to NOT emboss the sentiment. In case you’ve ever wanted to do this and don’t know how, here’s the skinny on the technique. Honestly, it’s sooo easy!

First, place the card stock you want to emboss in the folder the way you want it, but don’t emboss yet.

Next, take two pieces of cardboard (I’m using a cereal box) and die cut the size opening you need to fit around your sentiment… it can be any shape, mine just happens to be a circle. Make sure to try and line these up in the same place on both so that the cardboard will cover everything except the area around the sentiment (or where you want the blank spot).

Line up and stack your 2 pieces of cardboard on top of each other and position them as shown on top of the closed embossing folder, so that only the sentiment shows through. You shouldn’t be able to see anything else. Run this sandwich through your embossing machine. Note: I use an original Sizzix so I went with 2 pieces of cardboard. If you use a different machine, you may be able to only use 1 piece. Try it and see 🙂

Success! Here is my turquoise card stock, just the way I wanted.

A little close up of the finished card. After I embossed, I used a blue rainbow ink pad and a white pigment pad and sponged on a little more color in bands. Then I placed it over the background w/ the otters and positioned my cut out seals in the upper circle. The finished card is 5.50 x 4.25.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great weekend!

    Happy Thursday!
I hope your week has gone well. For today’s Ways to Use It Challenge (WT380), we are to use a door or window. I think my gate counts as a door. Hope so!

Poor Leonard! Do you think his muddy little friend is embarrassing him? This is one of those cards that started out much differently but took a left turn somewhere. And then it just kept going…and going… It seems like I must have used 57 different stamps on this, lol.

The images are all from DRS Designs. The fence is made up of 3 different fences that I stamped, cut out and pieced together. Leonard with the billboard was stamped a couple of times and I cut out his hooves and nose of the second one to add on top of my stretched sign. I did have to use a stamp positioner to rearrange the greeting a little. The card is 5.50 x 4.25.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

  • Pink Leopard

A big CONGRATS to Emily, the Featured Stamper this week on Splitcoast (FS280)! Emily has been a regular in the challenges and she has such a wonderful gallery. I chose her God’s Love Sympathy card. I kept the half tree type image, but changed most everything else. Really, I did case her card! But like everything I’ve worked on this last week, it took a left turn. Sometimes that happens and you just gotta go with it.

The images are a sneak peek from DRS Designs. Love this lazy leopard but I bet you never thought you’d see a pink leopard. Pink Panther, maybe. But hey, I found this really neat pink ribbon w/ leopard spots and I just had to use it.  So I planned on using the same layout Emily did, but when I was looking for some black card stock, I found this cute little black oval frame and that was all she wrote. I decided I needed to use it and I did a quick little out of the box cutting on my image to fit the oval.

By the way, I think I’ll also add this to Saturday’s IC341 because I saw this really cool leopard necklace that made me think of this leopard image to begin with. And while I’m working on challenges, I’ll add it to the Fan Club gallery, cause she’s a fancy pink leopard w/ a pink diamond brad on her pink leopard ribbon!

The background is an embossing folder. It took me longer to figure out how to color it like I wanted than anything else on this card. I arrived at this final result by sponging on the pink ink (not too carefully…there’s a lot of background so go for it!). Then I rubbed the soft sand ink pad across the high points and lastly, tapped the black ink (with a light touch) on the high points, kind of hit and miss.  I think it goes with the ribbon really well now. The finished card is 4.25 x 5.50.

    Thanks so much for looking!
