Sailboat Summer

Today’s Technique Challenge (TLC593) is reverse masking. Easy peasy & something I do a lot. On this little summer scene, I put the image into my Misti, stamped the sailboat, colored it w/ Copics, then masked it. I used a reverse mask for the horizon to cover the sky & sponge in the sea; put a round mask on the sun & flipped the horizon mask to cover the sea so I could sponge in the sky; then took off the sun mask & covered the sky w/ a reverse mask of the sun & sponged in the sun itself. Whew! That was easier to do than to explain. I even confused myself trying to write all that.

After all the sponging & masking was done, I added some white highlights w/ a gel pen, put it back into my Misti & over stamped w/ Versafine (all the coloring & sponging had dulled the original Memento lines quite a bit). I die cut it, added a narrow black layer then put a white die cut panel on top. The white panel has a square die cut to let the sailboat show thru & I rounded the corners. I was going for a kind of polaroid look for the frame.

Here are the Copics I used. Some of these were used to fill in little areas around the boat that were revealed when I took off the boat mask.
