Candy Cane Christmas 04156
Weekly-Favorite
A big congrats to Karren, the newest Featured Stamper on Splitcoast (FS389)! Such a fabulous gallery she has! Lots I want to case, but I was drawn to this really cute card. I kept the Christmas theme and colors, but I don’t have anything like those cute little Christmas kitties, so I used different images, an oval instead of a square & a grid die instead of the scallops & twine & moved the greeting.

I’ve always loved this candy cane image & for a quite a while I’ve wanted to try the “no line”  technique. Well, it’s harder than I imagined. I stamped the image w/ gray ink (so it wouldn’t really show) then carefully colored it with Copics. I definitely need more practice with this technique, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I added a white grid die cut w/ a red background and a fussy cut holly image to finish it. Pretty CAS. Here are the Copics I used.

Today we are taking a look back at the Our Daily Bread designs fabulous July release! Don’t you LOVE those trendy pennant dies and coordinating stamps? I sure do! I can see lots of uses for these babies in my future! I had a lot of fun with this card….and it’s a combination of dies and left overs from earlier projects. Isn’t it great when you find bits & pieces that all come together in a new project? This is also for the Inspiration Challenge (IC450). I was inspired by THIS pillow.

The other day, we had a Splitcoast challenge to “color the embossing” (TLC489). The aqua lower section is one of my “try outs”. After I embossed it, I colored over the top with a white marker. The top section, is a small leftover of a die cut ODBD Daisy Chain die. I had a few white asters left, so I die cut a few more from the Asters die and layered them together w/ a black print Candi dot on top. I used a white strip to stamp the rest of my greeting (from the Dad set) and bordered it w/ a black die cut from the Beautiful Borders dies.

And for the grand finale, I die cut a white Pennant Row and stamped the Happy on it from the Pennant Alphabet stamp set then added an aqua scallop pennant form the same Pennant Row dies underneath. A few more Candi dots finished it all.

Please be sure to stop and visit all of the team blogs for more inspiration!

Best of 2014!
A big congrats to Katie, the newest Queen for the Day (QFTD220) on Splitcoast! She has a wonderful gallery and I was so pleased to be asked by Trish to be a Guest Designer for her crowning! There are a lot of cards I wanted to case, but THIS one really stuck in my head. I guess I’m just crazy for color…especially rainbows of color. That’s about the only thing my card has in common with Katie’s fun card. Not really sure how it went from cute little chicks to tall skyscrapers, but there you go.

Christmas Rainbow 04145 For my card, I stamped my newly acquired Christmas scene twice and colored the buildings on both but only the sky/moon on one. I cut off the lower row w/ the Jingle Bell greeting in favor of a larger one underneath.  I die cut a square window on the black layer, and a slightly larger window on the white layer. The extra row of buildings was fussy cut and popped up on top of the window and slightly down.

After stamping the greeting, I added a single row of a die cut border and attached a rainbow strip behind it. This was a tad challenging since it’s a 3 row die & I also made the row shorter than the actual die. So to do this, I cut my strip the size I needed, put the die on top w/ only 1 row on the paper and only cut half way down. Took it out, and turned the die around (so it would have finished ends on both sides) and cut the other half. This is similar to the tutorial I did a long time ago: Resizing Your Nesties.  The finished card is 4.25 x 5.50 and these are the Copics I used.
