    Marbled Ornament cu07937
Today’s MIX Challenge (MIX149) has us playing with water colors or scraps or tags or all 3. I have all 3. And also references a water color ornament tutorial from Wednesday. And I admit, I started this “playing” last weekend before either was posted so I guess Dina & I must have been on the same wavelength, though I did go about mine a little differently.
    Marbled Ornament 07929
For this one, I stamped the ornament on water color paper then took a gold gel pen and drew squiggly lines across it to imitate marbling. Then I wet areas of the ornament. From experience I knew the water would make the gold gel pen run & that’s what I wanted. I added reds & bright pinks on one side then dried it w/ a heat gun. Then I did the yellows, blue & greens on the other side & dried it. The gold from the gel pen added a wonderful little bit of gold glitter across the ornament. I fussy cut it then covered it w/ clear embossing powder & heated it. I did this twice so it’s really glossy. The red, lime & gold pieces were all scraps that I either embossed, die cut or used as is. The little reddish drops are a bonus from making the ornament on the tag below.

    Supplies:

Stamps: DRS Designs-    Simple OrnamentChristmas to All Greeting
Paper: water color, Neenah white, grass green, lime green, red, scrap of gold
    Ink:   Vesafine onyx, Versamark
Accessories:  Peerless water colors, gold gel pen, clear embossing powder, baker’s twine, pine branch corners embossing folder (Darice), holly die (Sizzix), Spellbinders labels 16 die, Lil’ Inkers stitched rectangles die, paper crimper, Misti

On this ornament tag, I stamped the ornament like above & water colored similarly, but I did not use the gold gel pen. After 3 coats of clear embossing powder, it started to do a cracked glass thing, so I heated it & tilted it until these perfect little round drops of melted ep dripped off onto my craft sheet. Then I added a layer of a holographic ep but decided it was too much & heated it until most of it dripped off. Now just a little sparkle is left & I like it much better.
The perfect little round “dew drops” of melted ep were glued on as berries & embellishments on the first card.

Again, I used scraps of die cuts & embossed them. The white & red layers were cut w/ a Grand Label 4 and I just trimmed off the bottom so the tag would stand upright.

Paper: water color, Neenah white, lime green
    Ink:   Vesafine onyx, Versamark
Accessories:  Spellbinders tag, Grand labels 4, gold label 4 dies, Misti, sequins, baker’s twine, eyelet, clear embossing powder, stardust embossing powder

    Angel Greetings 07951
For my Christmas card, I started with a background I made on water color paper. I used some Distress Ink pads, smooshed them onto a kraft sheet, spritzed w/ a little water, then pressed the water color paper to it. I did one color at a time & dried it w/ a heat gun, then did the next color. This keeps the colors from running together & becoming muddy. When I finished, I die cut the layers & added the grape card stock in between.  The angel, greeting & very narrow layer around the center panel were die cut out of white glitter card stock. I also die cut another 2 angels & 1 greeting out of a darker purple to shadow them.

On the inside, I stamped the And the Angel Said, die cut it, then edged it w/ a purple Permapaque marker. I went over the edging & a little more w/ a Wink of Stella. I discovered the Wink of Stella made a little of the purple run so I used it to drag a little purple in toward the greeting. I also used it to add a little color to the white angel die cut.

The Ways to Use It Challenge (WT560) has us putting a Christmas sock on our project. So I have a Christmas stocking w/ a button & bow topper.
    Joy to You07825
I fussy cut a stocking shape & stamped it w/ one band of a woven plaid image then used a red Micron pen to add the borders on each band. A polka dot stamp & white pigment ink were used on the red topper, heel & toe. The woodgrain background was stamped onto a lt kraft using Memento desert sand. I added the ribbon & button and a couple of Candi dots to balance out the empty corner & I used a stitched rectangle on the white card front.
