    Green Snowman cu 07992
    Weekly-Favorite
This is for 3 Splitcoast Challenges…the sketch (SC570), the Technique (TLC563) & the CAS (CAS354). It’s been a long time since I combined more than 2 challenges. Green Snowman 07990
For the CAS, it was to use Christmas greens. I used only greens…5 shades of green from a Kaleidacolor ink pad. And since I really didn’t color anything & it’s all die cuts, it really was easy. For the Technique, we were to use small stamps to create something. I used 3 small images to make the large circle & a small greeting to make the border. I just eyeballed the placement & it worked out pretty good. For the sketch, I did a little finagling….I rotated it counterclockwise, my panel 5 is a bit larger to accommodate the snowman & my greeting is also round.

Everything was stamped w/ the fresh greens rainbow pad onto water color paper (that’s why it isn’t bright white). For the snowman, I used a water brush to drag the color in for shadows then dried it & over stamped w/ the same ink to sharpen the details again. The panels were all die cut & I used the same inks & water brush to add color to the edges. A little stickles was added along w/ a glittery round embellishment I colored green w/ a Copic (it was clear).

Here’s a look at the simple inside.

    Christmas Tags 07975
Since the challenge is tags, I started with a couple of large manilla tags I’ve had in my stash for a loooooong time. I’m surprised I was even able to find them! After locating my craft sheet, I made a bunch of tags using Distress inks & a mister by smooshing some red & pink inks for the red tag, and different green inks for the green tag, then spritzing them w/ water & pressing the tag to the inked craft sheet. Each shade of color was done separately & I used a heat gun to dry them in between colors.  As an extra something, I smooshed a Brilliance galaxy gold ink pad to the sheet then pressed the tags onto it.

The red tag was also stamped with the And the Angel Said multiple times using barn door ink before the die cut gold angel & Joy were attached on top.

For the green tag, I placed the tag into my Misti, stamped the Pine Swag w/ Memento then used a white chalk marker on the wood & some Copics on the pine branches. I over stamped it w/ Versafine then stamped the ribbon part onto another red tag and the pine cones onto a gold tag & fussy cut them. After the Merry was added, I used a glitter gold gel pen to outline it and around the wood rectangle. A gold Krylon pen was used to edge both tags & I also added some sequins & twine to both.

  • Marbled Water Color Ornaments

    Marbled Ornament cu07937
Today’s MIX Challenge (MIX149) has us playing with water colors or scraps or tags or all 3. I have all 3. And also references a water color ornament tutorial from Wednesday. And I admit, I started this “playing” last weekend before either was posted so I guess Dina & I must have been on the same wavelength, though I did go about mine a little differently.
    Marbled Ornament 07929
For this one, I stamped the ornament on water color paper then took a gold gel pen and drew squiggly lines across it to imitate marbling. Then I wet areas of the ornament. From experience I knew the water would make the gold gel pen run & that’s what I wanted. I added reds & bright pinks on one side then dried it w/ a heat gun. Then I did the yellows, blue & greens on the other side & dried it. The gold from the gel pen added a wonderful little bit of gold glitter across the ornament. I fussy cut it then covered it w/ clear embossing powder & heated it. I did this twice so it’s really glossy. The red, lime & gold pieces were all scraps that I either embossed, die cut or used as is. The little reddish drops are a bonus from making the ornament on the tag below.

    Supplies:

Stamps: DRS Designs-    Simple OrnamentChristmas to All Greeting
Paper: water color, Neenah white, grass green, lime green, red, scrap of gold
    Ink:   Vesafine onyx, Versamark
Accessories:  Peerless water colors, gold gel pen, clear embossing powder, baker’s twine, pine branch corners embossing folder (Darice), holly die (Sizzix), Spellbinders labels 16 die, Lil’ Inkers stitched rectangles die, paper crimper, Misti

    Ornament Tag cu 07892

On this ornament tag, I stamped the ornament like above & water colored similarly, but I did not use the gold gel pen. After 3 coats of clear embossing powder, it started to do a cracked glass thing, so I heated it & tilted it until these perfect little round drops of melted ep dripped off onto my craft sheet. Then I added a layer of a holographic ep but decided it was too much & heated it until most of it dripped off. Now just a little sparkle is left & I like it much better.
The perfect little round “dew drops” of melted ep were glued on as berries & embellishments on the first card.

    Ornament Tag 07894
Again, I used scraps of die cuts & embossed them. The white & red layers were cut w/ a Grand Label 4 and I just trimmed off the bottom so the tag would stand upright.
