This is my second week as a Guest Designer for the Splitcoast Color Challenge & for this challenge (CC578), the colors are olive, eggplant & Bermuda Bay (a blue/green). I admit, I was a little leery of using the eggplant w/ the other two, but I think it worked out ok in the end.
To make my rainy card, I first made 2 water color backgrounds..the narrow blue/green one and a larger one w/ all 3 of the colors to use for the umbrellas. After brushing water over the narrow panel, I mixed blue & green Brusho powders on an old CD with a wet paintbrush then drug the paintbrush across the top edge of the panel & held it upright to let the color run down. I let it dry a bit, then added a few darker drips & some splatters. For the other panel, I mixed the colors of Brushos on the CD & painted them in separate areas on the panel. When both panels were dry, I splattered then w/ water then quickly dipped them in UTEE (ultra thick embossing enamel) & heat embossed. I had do this in small areas at a time in order for the UTEE to stick & the water puddles not to soak in.
After die cutting the umbrellas & narrow panel (I used a rectangular piercing die & did one side at a time), I stamped the half sun where I knew the panel would end then realized that the yellow I was going to color it wasn’t in the challenge so I stamped it again on a leftover piece of the w/c bg & paper pieced it. I attached the narrow panel, put it in my Misti & stamped the greeting on both & added the umbrellas. The 3rd umbrella I trimmed off the handle & just let the Y be its handle.

Today we are taking another look at the Our Daily Bread designs June Release! Don’t you just love the sunshine sets & sunburst background die? So cute and so happy! And I think they go wonderfully with the clouds & umbrella dies. And the Father’s Day set & tool dies! Fabulous!!
For my card today, I was thinking along the lines of the sun coming out after a rain. To make the background, I white embossed the Belles Vignes on white then sponged on the distress inks. I used a water brush to splatter it with water (for the lighter rain drops) then used a white spray I made by mixing a little white acrylic paint and water in a mini mister & spritzed it on. I think I used about 1 part paint to about 4 parts water. Then it was die cut w/ the largest die of the Flourished Star Pattern dies. The sun was also white embossed on another piece of white, die cut & w/ the circle die still in place, I sponged on the colors. I didn’t like the way the hills turned out, so I did them over, fussy cut them & added them on top. For the yellow layer, I didn’t have enough of the right color of yellow, so I used a couple of yellow Copics around the edges before I attached the turquoise layer on top. The umbrella was die cut 3 times & I shortened the very top one by moving the edge of the die up and cutting just that part. A Scor-Pal was used to add the score lines on the top 2 in order to fold them a bit. I wanted it to look as if the umbrella was being folded up to put away. The clouds & greeting were added to finish.

Today we are taking another look at the Our Daily Bread designs April Release! Don’t you just love the umbrella & cloud dies and the fun sets to go with them? Seems like I’ve been using them non-stop since they first arrived! For my card today, I wanted to use bright, happy colors to go with these fun dies & images. I just had it in my head that little polka dots are happy so I went searching my stash for them.
I came up with some bright pink, blue & lime green dotty paper so that’s what I used. I die cut the white front, then die cut the clouds out of it to use as a negative. The positive clouds were die cut out of the blue dotty paper and added behind. The greeting was stamped first using the 3 colors of neon ink then overstamped with the black. I think the hint of color really adds a nice touch. The umbrella was cut once out of pink, once in white and the inserts were also cut out of pink. I attached the inserts on top of the white version then rounded it and attached it to the pink version. The grass was cut from the lime green and I added a few tiny punched flowers. After die cutting the gate out of white, I trimmed the top off to make it even and attached it over the grass. The umbrella and a few raindrops were added on top.
