Cattails Dragonflies cu IMG0352
Weekly-Favorite   CAS-Favorite
Has it been crazy hot where you are? And humid, too? A walk outside around here is feeling like walking through a steam room. It’s pretty bad when it feels as if you’re wearing the air like a wetsuit. As Dr. Suess might say…I do not like the heat. I do not like it one bit. I do not like it even one little bit. For today’s Inspiration Challenge (IC551), we have a Pinterest Board full of Tim Holtz inspiration. I was inspired by THIS card.

(I DO like these colors. I do like them a lot.) And cattails & dragonflies are what you’d probably see in a hot, humid area. You can tell it’s hot because of the blazing orange above the dragonflies. I die cut a stitched rectangle out of the white linen c/s then sponged on the oranges from the top down and the green/turq from the bottom up. Then I put it into my Misti, stamped the cattails & dragonflies w/ Memento, added some color w/ Copics, then over stamped w/ Versafine. Just a touch of the splatter bg. was added here & there. The greeting was die cut in a double stitched circle & I sponged the outer circle w/ the same colors.

Funny thing about the bottom…I scored the top fold in the wrong place which made the front shorter & back too long. Instead of rescoring it (which would make it look funny & all), I cut off the excess on the back & added a sponged strip w/ part of the grid border on top. I guess another case of a mistake turning into an opportunity for change.

Here’s a look at the inside & below it are the Copics I used for the cattails & dragonflies.

A big congrats to Kim, the newest Featured Stamper! She has a lovely gallery & I chose THIS to case. I used the same scripture & a similar woodgrain bg, but I changed the layout & colors. This is also for Lydia’s Finish Line HYCCT1531C Challenge. I used a couple of dk gray Copics to draw the horizontal & vertical crossing lines in the lower left corner.

For my card, I stamped the woodgrain bg across the back panel w/ weathered wood then sponged on more of the same ink. It was sprayed w/ a mix I made of watered down white wash acrylic paint. The water can image was stamped w/ Memento, colored w/ Copics, then overstamped with black soot distress ink & the scripture added. I used only 1 line of a 3 grid border die for the little squares then backed it w/ the textured paper I tore off the upper corner. It was sponged & I also used the soot ink pad to drag the black ink across it.

These are the Copics I used.

Shell Wreath cu 06656

Today’s Inspiration Challenge (IC507) is a Pinterest board full of fabulous mixed media art. I could spend all day looking at the beautiful pictures. My card was inspired by THIS picture.
Shell Wreath 06655 I already had the mixed media bg made, just waiting around to be used. It was embossed w/ a chevron folder, then Versamark ink rubbed over it & heat embossed w/ a shabby white/gold embossing powder. I did the same to the wave die cut at the bottom.

Shell Wreath xcu 06665 The greeting circle was stamped & gold embossed & I also added a few gold embossed splatters. The different shells were all gold embossed, fussy cut & I used a couple of Prismacolor pencils to add just a hint of color. A die cut vellum twig wreath was attached around the circle (it reminded me of coral) then the shells were added on top.

Here’s the inside.
